Heroespedia Reopened for Editing

Unread postby Sikon » 21 Jun 2006, 18:56

(preview-ish)

Heroespedia, a Celestial Heavens-hosted Heroes wiki, protected from editing for several months, has been reopened after an upgrade to a newer version of MediaWiki, the engine behind Wikipedia.

Heroespedia is a wiki, an encyclopedia that everyone, even anonymous users, can edit. This may sound crazy at first, but Wikipedia and numerous other wikis have shown that this idea can actually work. We desperately need contributors, so you are more than welcome to join Heroespedia now and share your knowledge about the Heroes of Might and Magic series! (Creating missing articles at red links and expanding short articles will be a good place to start.)

I'd suggest providing templates for "list item"-pages like creatures, buildings and such stuff. And making "portals" for each big section ("portal:Haven" etc). Like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Europe or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Germany .

Look like it's going to cover more than just one game. If so, how are you planning to handle overlap? For example, how are you going to handle skills that are in more than one game, and skills that work the same but have different names?

Also, let me just mention the Heroeswiki, which only covers H3 but does a rather good job of it- at least the gameplay elements.

The spells article is more of a placeholder until real feature-quality articles appear.

As for categories: the current category system is quite a mess, so they'll be renamed in the near future.

If it's a placeholder then it probably was deemed worthy of placeholding, and that's what I like. :devious: :)

I just realized that the Naga, a creature with multiple arms, is a good analogy for the people working together on a wiki.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.
