Disciples 3 Trailer and Q&A
<img src="/images/news/Disciples_screen2.jpg" align=right vspace=15 hspace=15>If your Internet connection can handle a 122 MB download, you absolutely need to watch the <a href="/http://www.strategycore.co.uk/e3/pg/06d ... >Disciples III: Renaissance trailer</a>. Powered by the Virtual Dream engine, the game supports all modern 3D technologies such as vertex and pixel shaders, normal maps, skeletal, morphic and procedural animations, particle systems, dynamic lights and shadows, portal technology and image post-processing... and whatever these things are, the results look great. I especially like the fact that the realtime engine demo was recorded with a simple 2 Ghz CPU with an ATI 9800 graphic card, a rather modest system by today's standards.
If you want to learn more about the game, I suggest you visit <a href="/http://www.strategycore.co.uk/e3/pg/06d ... egyCore</a>. My friend Slaughter met the associate producer of the game during this year's edition of E3. They also talk about Heroes V briefly:
<i>"We're planning on doing the game slightly different from the previous Disciples and Heroes 5. We'll focus more on the RPG elements, and make you more attached to the creatures. There will be much more growth for the heroes and creatures than seen in the Heroes games. The Heroes games have taken the classical approach, the paperdoll model and so on. In Disciples III you'll see the changes when using different gear. We've evaluating a possibility to create a random item generator, where there will be a staggeringly huge number of items available."</i>

Disciples 3 Trailer and Q&A
Heroes V paperdoll model?! Someone hasn't been playing the game.
And H4 focused on RPG elements... that went well. Then again there'd be nothing i'd love more then it working out great, more ammo for my "you didn't like it cause it wasn't finished/implemented right not because of the RPG elements and changes" argument.

Disciples 3 Trailer and Q&A
I really hope Disciples 3 is as good as Disciples 2. I've heard that they are making a lot of changes, and I hope they don't try to make too many things different with the game.

Actualy there's a new video that around 45 MB. But it only shows some new concept art and a short version of what was in the larger one. I posted the link in the HotH thread.

Disciples 2 was awesome. I really hope they can make the series even better.

Disciples 3 Trailer and Q&A
If they give Disciples 3 a decent AI, as it had in the past, it'll automatically be superior to Heroes 5. Disciples 2 even gave Heroes 3 a run for its money...

Disciples 3 Trailer and Q&A
Well, after reading the interview, I'm a little alarmed. Every time the interviewer asks him a question about the game, he goes on and on about the graphics engine, but has almost nothing to say about major gameplay elements -- except that they're pretty much going to duplicate D2 in that regard because they're pressed for time. Sounds just like what happened to Heroes V: Given a limited amount of time, the developers found it wise to devote almost all of that time to the graphics engine, leaving major gameplay elements and a strategic AI as an afterthought. After all, you can't lure the kids into the store with a good AI!
The really telling part was when, after going into incredible detail about the graphics engine, then saying they don't have much time for development left, the interviewer asks how siege combat is going to be handled. Answer: "I don't know -- we really haven't thought about it yet."
Such is the industry today...

I still don't get the whole dropping from 5 factions down to 3. Could you imagine Heroes being released with only 3 lousy factions? I don't care how balanced they may be, you will quickly get bored of having so few options.

Id compare it more with dropping from 9 to 6 factionsKing Imp wrote:I still don't get the whole dropping from 5 factions down to 3. Could you imagine Heroes being released with only 3 lousy factions? I don't care how balanced they may be, you will quickly get bored of having so few options.

Well D2 only had 4 factions at the begining, and they did promise at least 2 more factions in expansions. They also said there will be more lords and units and the game has those nice unit branchings to variate ur play. So this is more like Heroes having only 6 factions.

Another game that might interest Heroes fans is Battle Lords. Check out the TC interview here.

Looks good, but it is a little worrying that they haven't even STARTED designing the siege system and he mentions several times that they don't that much time.
And "only" 3 factions is not hard to imagine. They got lots of other work to do. Like figuring out how the different factions buildings will connect and what unit will be at what building. Can take forever to get that part right!

Well if they use the previous way of getting an armour bonus it's not really much work to do.

Disciples 3 Trailer and Q&A
Unfortunately for heroes this game will come. If nival&ubi doesn't do something quick and from what i've seen on the feedback from akella and .dat on the new things i may switch to disciples.
I given homm5 a great deal of time. But unfortunately it's too much.
Either i team up with some people and teweak the ai, resolve all bugs, ballance the game and last but not least improve the performance and newer generation computers support either i dump heroes.
Right now i'm 80% to dumping it.
