Skill wheel updated!

Unread postby Kalah » 22 May 2006, 14:14

Aurelain has made improvements; the Wheel is now up to version 1.0. Many changes have been put into effect, the most major of which include class-specific skills and a skill counter. The appearance of the skill description has also been altered, the description delay is history, and several skills have been modified.

Minor changes include an enlargement of the selected skill, name/text changes and an adaption to the newly discovered bugs.

People have expressed some concern about the Knight and Necromancer Ultimate Abilities requiring the Ultimate Race Skill. Is this a bug in the Wheel, or do they really do?

Love the new description box.

By the way, the executable has been updated as well, so you can use the wheel offline. There's a link on the Wheel page.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Skill Wheel Updated!

Unread postby Aurelain » 22 May 2006, 16:45

During the update, I encountered the following issues:

- skill changes: Wizard (Fog Veil replaces Elemental Overkill, Aura of Swiftness disappears), Demon Lord (Twilight disappears, Dark Renewal appears), Necromancer (Retribution disappears, Power of Haste appears)

- text changes for: Master of Storm, Scouting, Fire Resistance, Guardian Angel, Boneward, Battle Commander, Death March, Silent Stalker, Brimstone Rain, Imbue Arrow, Mark of the Wizard and Magic Mirror

Bugs:

- Fog Veil (Wizard) mentions in its description the Ranger

- Weakening Strike (Knight) references Mark of the Damned (Demon skill)

- Resistance (Warlock) can not be obtained, as it requires too many skills from the Defense

I didn't get the chance to check whether the Absolute skill for Knight/Necro requires the Ultimate Mastery or not. I applyed a cheat to give the hero some 15.000.000 experience, but it really proves to be difficult to get the right skills.

All the Leadership skills are labeled as Enlightenment.

Aside from that, this thing is a Godsend considering Ubi and Nival couldn't be bothered to include this stuff in the game and/or manual.

You know what would be nice? If someone at Nival/Ubi would actualy pass on the info about the skill system.

Really great work, Aurelain! :)

Now you can see that for two abilities of the same skill you need to have advanced level. However there's something that could be incorrect - actually I don't know if it is or not, I just doubt it is like displayed in the skill wheel:

--> As prerequisite to advanced abilties, do you really need basic skill level only?

E.g. see Demon lord -> Soulfire. It needs only Basic Sorcery - but I doubt that. Just a feeling, so if anyone knows for sure, I'd be glad to be told ;)

It only need Basic Sorcery because it doesn't need any other ability in the Sorcery skill tree.

See, in order to have 2 Abilities from a certain Skill you need to have 2 lvls in that skill. 3 lvls for 3 Abilities. That's why most skills on the third circle require at least Advanced in their apropriate skill.

I know the logic behind that. But I don't know if it's correct for advanced abilities. Soulfire is a strange example, because it clearly is "advanced" as opposed to the 3 "basic" abilities each skill has, but it does not require a basic ability. This is why I'm wondering if you *really* need only the basic skill level to get this advanced (!) ability.

Yes it is. None of the abilities actualy need more than the Basic skill, you just need it in order to have more then 1 Ability.

Basic = 1 Ability; Advanced = 2 Abilities; Expert = 3 Abilities;

As long as you can get the ability without another one from the same Skill it doesn't matter if it's Tier 1 or 2.

I did a few things for you Aurelain, sinc eI loved your chart so much. Please let me know if this information helps.

Wizard: The order of skills are Luck -> Resourcefulness -> Spoils of War -> Tears of Asha Vision. Tears of Asha Vision DOES require Consume Artifact to learn.

Demon Lord: Mark of the Damned IS a requirement for Excrutiating Strike.

Knight/Necromancer: The "!" abilities of these classes (Unstoppable Charge, Howl of Terror) do NOT require the Ultimate abilities in order to learn them. The Expert abilities of their class is just fine.

Knight: Although the Knight's Weakening Strike says it affects Mark of the Damned, in fact, the ability is applied to Retaliation Strike. Perhaps the guide should edit this, even though the game has a typo, the chart probably shouldn't.

Warlock: As far as I can tell through multiple attempts, the Warlock's "Resistance" ability can NOT be attained. I've tried attaining it with Vitality + Power of Endurance and Vitality + Protection. It refused to come up after MANY levels afterwards. This means that Counterspell is also unattainable by default.

I hope that helped.
