Songs of Conquest - Trailer, Release Date

Songs of Conquest is back and banging the drums in an all new trailer featuring gameplay footage and more epic sounding music.

Perhaps the most important part of the trailer is revealed here: Image

Coming Early 2022
That's some huge news, which we have been looking forward to A LOT! You are already able to Wishlist it on Steam here and on GOG.com here
With the news out there, let's dive into some of the good stuff from the trailer.

The Heroes of Might and Magic inspired game gives us a good taste of what's to come. Featuring some fancy looking battle animations on the classic hexagonial battlefield.

Scenes from the trailer show a promising turn based battle system where the archers seem to stand on some sort of "high ground" which can also be seen in the preview of the battlefield. We are looking forward to seeing more of the mechanics behind this.

Some sweet effects are made when the video zooms us closer to what presumably is a wraith like being most likely belonging to the faction "Barony of Loth" (which is one of the factions I am most hyped about).

We are also shown a Hero travelling over the adventure map, which gives the feeling of the more laid back style we see in the Heroes of Might and Magic-series. A style where you are allowed the time to explore and plan your next strategical move.

Spells and Artifacts are also teased, not only on the adventure map as pictures above, but we do get a sneak peek at something that looks like a large spell scroll and two Heroes interacting, trading (?) artifacts.

What do you think of the trailer?
What's your favorite part?
Did we miss something important?
Will you add it to your Steam/GOG Wishlist?

This is incredibly exciting. I haven't felt so excited about a game since, well... Heroes 7...

ahem

let me not try and jinx it by any comparisons suchlike...

It looks a lot like H3 reborn.

Plus improvements to the battlefield. That altitude thing is great. I've always enthusiastically supported battlefields that are more realistic.

Having a town that is not just one location on the map, but actually grows outwards, feels very realistic. I can imagine warfare where the enemy can't take down your keep, but if the rest of your town and production dwellings are lying outside your walls, they can be burned down or the inhabitants conscripted to fight for the enemy instead.

The spellcasting is a bit dramatic. I feel like they're overly influenced by modern phone games designed for kids. The traditional Heroes spellcasting animation looked more modest, and more 'realistic'. I feel that your knights and lower level spell casters shouldn't be able to cast overly dramatic stuff on the battlefield.

The pixel art thing comes across as outright wrong. A game made in the year 2022 should not look like a 1970s game. It's a turn based strategy, not a video console.
I will still buy the game, but the pixels guarantee that I'll never rate it 10/10 no matter how much I like the rest of the game.

The factions look a bit generic. Abstract pictures as their logos, just names without any seeming meaning. I can't really tell if they're supposed to be linked to any race.
Based on the website:
Arleon is Knights/ Elves
Barya is Wizards
Rana is Barbarians/ Fortress
Barony of Loth is Undead.

Right now, no further information on individual races and their units, or inner game mechanics.

Wow. This is pure HOMMII, even in graphics. I never heard of this game before, came out of nowhere. Looks like they got tired of Ubisoft sitting on the license, they just made their own... Looks good!

Thanks Shockwave

Just to share with everyone, among the many goodies mentioned on the Devblog, are:

1) they have a computer that plays through their Ai 24-7, allowing them to keep tweaking problems and weaknesses in the code.
(Compare that with Nival that didn't even playtest their H5 product)

2) existence of guard towers with guard radius, which adds something new

For me this is a mark ideal, although I never insisted on pixel graphic. Having just simple graphics allows you to focus on gameplay. And this is what is needed.

They do but that's rather primitive, just measure operation and adapt. I wouldn't be so exaggerated about it. (Also LIMBIC measured such operations but not over automat. This is fairly standard practice to do.)
