Heroes VII: Resources presentation

Unread postby Aemaeth » 25 Sep 2014, 19:00

Resources represents one of the most important part for a Might & Magic game. Even Heroes VI had changed some mechanics about them, Heroees VII's team announce a full revamp of the system and introduce seven different resources.

In Heroes VII, developers introduce as well common resources, essential for creating towns. But for more rare items, no more gemstones, rubies and sulphur, players can discover special resources with specific roles.

Dragonblood crystal, Starsilver, Shadowsteel, Dragonsteel are now present in Heroes VII in order to allow players to create new buildings and special units.

I like what I see. It should open up for good diversity for mapmakers. :)

For the community: Do you prefer those kind of resources, or past mecanics integrate in H5/H6 ?

That's fine by me, having these resources, as long as they have different uses and functions amongst factions. I'll still miss gems and anything liquid in that layout, as we had mercury. :D

I simply DESPISED H6 resource system.

P.S.: after rereading those, maybe it would be better renaming some of them. There are 2 Dragon-something and 2 Something-steel.

There's a quest in MMXL where you have to find the metal from a fallen meteorite so you can have a sword forged for you. This fits the starsilver concept, except that, IIRC, the meteorite in question appeared to be red, not blue.

From the perspective of map making, resources which are not tied into the specific lore of Ashan would be better suited. Not all scenarios and campaigns are meant be to set in the same world after all.

I really like the new resources!

And, I don't have any problem with the names at all.

Reading the comments at the blog, so many people are complaining with the names. I don't get it. As if trying to nitpick...
I believe in science and that science can explain everything.

Very nice. I like that they tie them to the Ashan world mythologie, therefore I also do not mind the names, even if they are kind of repetive.

The new resources look interesting, but I think we're still going to find the game overall to be "same ol' same ol'" because all the factions and units are going to be too much the same.

would still strongly prefer to see the old resources come back. Calling thing Dragon-something and Phoenix-something just don't do it for me.

I agree with cjlee, I'd rather have the original resources make a reappearance. As for the "Dragonsteel", "Shadowsteel", and "Hey let's put steel at the end of everything-steel". C'mon. I mean what the hell is so hard with Gems, Crystals, Wood, Ore, Gold, Sulfur, and Mercury? You can't mine Steel, steel is a freaking alloy, you don't come across it...ugh...and now it's infused with "shadow and dragon"? Now if these resources were significant to a specific faction, than ok, otherwise, it's just not cool daddy-O.

I'm not understanding why this is news - it appears no different than the way resources have traditionally been except with different names. ;|

Weren't there 4 resources only in H6? *vomiting just with the memory of said game*

Now they are getting back to 7. That's the news.

It would be nice to keep the resource names from the past as a tie in to the past chapters. I think UBI frequently changes things because they can, not for any reason of necessity. However, the number of resources is more important than the names.
