What Comes Next?

Now that development for MMX has formally ended, it's time to look to the future. Despite their shortcomings, Ubisoft have proved their intention to continue the franchise, and there is surely only a matter of a year or two before the next development arrives. So. Questions for the fans:

What is next?
Heroes VII? MM XI?
Who do you think/hope will make it?
What sort of a game do you think it will be? What features are you hoping to see?

I of course have no idea. However if they are going to continue the same path with both franchises, then I wish for MMXI. They are at least closer to doing the gameplay that feels like the original MMs. The Heroes franchise has been horrible under their watch.

I would place my bets on Heroes7. But I cannot imagine them.

Surely simpler and faster is to develop MM title, however existing MM title was a success. The big hole dwell in heroes series, H6 is not played - no multi-player, not fan scenarios - only campaigns. Players are everywhere just not here.

What's next? Heroes Online for sure.
I think we can all assure that Heroes 7 will come in future and maybe it's already under development.
Kalah and Marzhin should know that but of course they can't say anything.

I do believe Heroes 7 will be next for the above mentioned reasons. My preference is for the line they did fairly well MM. I have no expectations they have a clue how to make a good Heroes game or a campaign editor fans can use.

I'm almost certain Heroes would come sooner than MM. They might release some new spinoffs or something in the meanwhile though. Hopefully they realize whatever they were doing with H6 wasn't working and they try copying old games again like they did with H5 (and got some modicum of success). I don't have much hope they're gonna make H7 any good, but I do hope they at least try instead of staying with the same dysfunctional formula.

The most obvious choice is Heroes 7. It has a larger potential market and I think to Ubisoft that's the only thing that counts. I am not sure if Legacy sold well enough to justify a sequel. The fact that they abandonded it only a couple of months after the official release doesn't sound good to me.

Unfortunately that has a smell of truth. UBI must be wondering what does it take. The money is out there; Star Citizen still about 6 - 12 months from release has already raised $47.7 million in fan donations. They have not even released the alpha yet. It gets about another $200,000 every week in new backing.

Heroes 7 has more existing brand value than any other might and magic brand, but like the previous heroes games it's not cheap to make and takes much more resources - it's a bigger risk but i could see ubisoft going with it, although in a much less risky way, perhaps with less campaigns/factions on release than heroes VI (Heroes VI on release was a massive game really).

For MMXI they can do basically anything. MMX was definitely a low budget game but it would be difficult to do that again (as you'd have to create all the art resources). I think that they abandoned MMX simply because DLC sales for RPGs don't sell well. They had a defined start and end, basically the end being the first DLC (as they had to get the community dungeon out and a few other things they probably wanted on release)

I really hope they can do a 'bigger' Might and Magic title instead of going for all these weird spinoffs like Heroes Online that are decent games but you wouldn't play them for long. Although i haven't played Clash of Heroes, Duel of Champions is the best spinoff they've done (and the only really worthy one). Whoever came up with heroes as a CCG is brilliant.

Ubisoft is all about the money so they will do whatever is most profitable for them, which is probably cheap spinoffs that utilize the M&M brand name. I'd love to see some of the older M&M games updated with HD graphics. That is a growing trend on the PS3 but not so much for PC games.

The most probable reason for abandoning MMX is poor sales. The only game I remember having a smaller support lifespan was MMIX and we all know why that happened. I can understand the decision of a company to not release any further content, but ending support means no patches and I simply cannot remember any healthy title that had a support span shorter than a year.

i believe that the next is going to bee heroes of might and magic 7 after the 6 one will get a few updates and will aprox 8 cities but i do hope that they will return and ad the old sci fi element to the franchise and make the storry of heroes 7 set in far of future where magic and technology coexist

well if it wasnt so short budged, poorly made, MMXL wouldn't sell so bad... the game actually sucks... i mean people already retorted with mmIX and they waited so much to get screwed over again with MMX ? bah, i fart in the face of ubi, they should invest lots of moneiz, and lots of skillz in MMXI .
to make vivid paper dolls system, bugs almost free, and working . graphics is not so important as lore and game-play.
in fact, the people responsible should be hanged and quartered.
as for heroes 7, i think they should stop going backwards in time. they should do something usefull...H7 sould be in axeoth...

we should make a pool in that regards,
and if ubi wont complay , storm the offices, invade the country! Viva la might and magic!

If they continue to refuse to release in NA in a non-digital format, than I don't care. I don't have the bandwidth for multi-gig downloads. Probably a lot of others do to.
I think that may be the reason for poor sales as well. If a box isn't in a store, then only those looking for it will ever find it- thus only the fans will ever buy anything in the series. There's something to be said for shelf-space.

To my mind, we will have more informations during Gamescom (august) and Ubisoft digital Days (in september). Last time, they were focus on Duel of Champions and Heroes Online. The first is making some noise in games world and the second must be launch soon, they cannot stay in beta test for severals years....
Maybe we will have some intels for a new Heroes 7 ? The told some years ago that they will continue the saga...

I could not agree more. As of August last year at least 30% of the US did not have broadband internet. I doubt that has changed much. They managed to sell H-V at least through HOF; not sure about Tribes in the box here. So any excuse they come up with is lame and shows a lack of concern for the NA market. If they don't care then why should we. To be fair I did enjoy MMX while I played it, but real world responsibilities interfered and I never got past the lighthouse quest. I currently do not have the motivation to restart the game, but I might at some point.

I have relayed that sentiment to Ubisoft and they have definitely gotten the message; they also saw the problems when it came to releasing games in the US, so I'm sure that is something they want to work on for future games. I'm not sure they can get the "exclusive" versions everywhere, but selling retail versions of the game should be possible in all the big countries. Gaming-wise, USA is a pretty big country. ;)

The US is also (despite what most people would think) quite lacking in digital infrastructure. Not like the third world or anything, but as you can see here, broadband connections really have a long way to come.
