Drachenwald Closing?

Unread postby Kalah » 23 Mar 2013, 21:18

In the midst of all the excitement of the new instalment to the Might & Magic RPG series, there is also some somber news. The German M&M fansite, Drachenwald, is on the verge of closing down after 14 years.

Wanting to step down for some time, it seems Gunnar has not been successful in finding someone to take over the leadership of the site. That means the site will close this year - unless someone takes over before October. That means no more German M&M community.

For context, Germany is arguably the biggest M&M community in Europe. They also contribute greatly to international sites; I checked our traffic a while back to see which countries our visitors are from. Germany was #2 on the list. I urge those of you who have the ability and drive to lead a website to contact Gunnar for more information - even if it's just to find out what kind of work is involved.

You can be sure: the Drachenwald will NOT close down. After Gunnar's announcement A there has started a long discussion in a thread about meanwhile 5 pages:
HERE
Gunnar's plan B. will come true: "the Drachenwald will not die"!!!!

Besides: There does exist another German M&M-community, called the "Might and Magic-World", look here

Drachenwald Closing?

Unread postby Loco Blutaxt » 26 Mar 2013, 14:00

I can confirm that it is unlikely that Drachenwald closes this year. There are a lot of people in the German community that offered their help transfering the content of the old Drachenwald page to an CMS or a Wiki and take over the administration of the "new" Drachenwald page. So chances are good that Drachenwald will survive or better will be reborn some day.

This will take some time. Gunnar said that we talk about nearly 1000 HTML-pages that have to be transfered. And the new team has not started yet.

But I see it like Koni: Drachenwald will survive!

Very good indeed. If there is also a need for the German community to have a place to go in the mean time, then I suppose this other German site is closest - while we at CH have also loosened our policy about hosting foreign language material such as maps and mods.

The forum of Drachenwald and the maps-site http://www.kartenarchiv.de/ - which is also a site of Gunnar and host the maps - will not close in the meantime.

Drachenwald Closing?

Unread postby Yurian Stonebow » 17 Apr 2013, 20:32

I used Google Translator (with some editing done by me) to come up with the following text.

"Closure of the Dragon Forest is averted and there will be an internal solution. Mystic Phoenix leads the Dragon Forest from now on alone supported by many veteran "Foresters" and new members. The next steps are already partly underway about organizing and rotating the tasks ahead and to give them into the capable hands of the volunteers. The next weeks and months will hopefully be a time of change and new creation. At the end there will be a new, better Dragon Forest!"

I wish all the best to the new management of the Drachenwald (= "Dragon Forest") web site.

Keep on the good work guys. :)

Don't worry if things are going badly today. They will be much worse tomorrow.
