H5 Quiz: Round #5

Unread postby Kalah » 10 Jun 2012, 22:03

Time for the last round of Maciek's H5 quiz - a question called "Dragon's Revenge".

In previous questions, your enemies didn't even have a hero to lead them. In this scenario your enemies are 1.000 Titans and 1.000 Storm Titans, waiting in a fully-built Fortress of Celestial Flames, led by an elite Hero. Your task is to defeat them on day 1.

Good news: The Memory Mentor with lots of gold for reshuffling is still there. You are generously given 15 Phoenixes, 24 Ghosts and 647 Black Dragons. I hope you remember question 4, because your Attack skill is sky high. Some area effect destructive spells are banned.

Bad news: Access to spells is limited. You start with only Slow, Decay, Dark Ritual, Regeneration and Armageddon.

Also: You can choose between Scrolls of: Battlecry, Chain Lightning, Teleport, Wasp Swarm and Frenzy. You can also choose between Wands of: Meteor Shower, Divine Vengeance, Summon Elementals and Blind.

H5 Quiz: Round #5

This one was though. Ballista with fliming arrows seems key. Allthough, come to think of, I didn't test wheter it one-hits the 1000 stormtitans without the perk. It just might. Death march gets our troops over the walls in one turn. Problem is that the blackies and the phoenixes' attack stat is too high, so that it reverts to zero, and I can't think of any way to bring it back down. Divine Vengance isn't much help, and neither is Summon Elementals. Splitting ghosts and or phoenixes into multiple stacks of at least two creatures, combined with Last stand makes us last a while at least. Relying in the ballista to kill, and slowing the enemy attacks down with Mass slow, I've had two stacks of 167 Titans left before they killed me. However, if there was a way for the dragons to "lose" some attack in order to reobtain their sky-high value, they could roast at least two stacks of titans, which would in turn make my best attempt so far a win. As for how to lower the attack of said dragons though, as stated, I'm at a loss. To tired to try any more tonight, curious to hear what you other guys can come up with :)

OK, here's the answer:

First, if you get a really bad week (say, -20% initiative for Necro), restart is suggested. Skills chosen:
Expert Defense->Vitality->Stand Your Ground->Last Stand
Expert Light Magic->Master of Abjuration, Master of Blessings->Guardian Angel.
Expert Warmachines->First Aid; Catapult->Brimstone Rain.
Expert Summoning->Master of Earthblood->Fog Veil; Master of Life.
Expert Dark Magic->Master of Mind, Master of Pain, Fallen Knight.
Also chosen: Scroll of Teleport and a Wand of Blind.

Battle setup: Buy a Ballista and a First Aid Tent. Dismiss all Dragons and Phoenixes and split out 6 2-Ghost stacks. Start the battle with Mass Slow while the Catapult targets Arrow Towers. Then, if the Titans are about to act, blind them and if Ghosts are about to act, teleport them next to Titans to destroy them. Meanwhile, all the Ghosts advance towards Titans, trying to get to them.

Alternative solution: substitute Light with:
Logistics->Pathfinding->Familiar Ground, Death March.
It's much easier now that the Ghosts have more than double the speed. You actually don't need Teleport now. And maybe don't need Blind either.
