Heroes V 0.8 Preview

Unread postby Sikon » 12 Apr 2006, 05:46

LaBoule, the Heroic Corner administrator, has posted a Heroes V <a href="/http://heroes.ag.ru/h5/press/h5_preview ... preview based on version 0.8 (pre-release). The interview is in Russian; here are some highlights:

The number of bugs has dropped dramatically compared to the beta; there are still a few , but none of them are critical. Performance has also been considerably improved.

The font has been changed to an italic one, and there are now much more menu options, including autosave, quick combat, and a number of performance tweaks, although not all are implemented.

It is possible to view the "message log" - essentially a transcript of the pre-mission cinematic.

The horse cursor is back.

There are now tutorial messages, which only pop up once and can be toggled off. There is no separate tutorial map: the first campaign mission is essentially a tutorial.

It is now possible to divide stacks at the beginning of the battle, and by default the game proposes a 50:50 split.

All three war machines are now available for purchase in towns, but two "non-native" machines are more expensive than the "native" one.

The game was tested on a laptop with 1,25 GB of memory, a Pentium M 1.6 GHz (roughly equivalent to Pentium 4 2.4 GHz), and a Radeon X300SE with 64 MB of video memory.

It's more than enough. In fact, the game includes a low-detail mode to run smoothly even on the weakest video cards, at the expense of image quality.

hmmm... this bodes well for my new purchase... MacBook Pro 1.85GHz dual-core with 1GB RAM and the ATi 128MB x1600 with WinXP / OSX dual-boot... :D

you can't know how incredible it feels as a Mac gamer to walk into any games shop and just buy as many games as you want right off the shelf.

Are the system req. toned down now? Cause I remember in the beta, the game would still run a little "chunky" on my system. (On the higher graphics level of course, ie turning the resolution way up) This really shouldn't have been the case, as my comp is almost brand new :(

Specs: Intel Pentium D Processor 820 (around 2.8Ghz) with 3 GB of DDR2 SDRAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 GPU (256 MB of video)

It was a beta. It's not supposed to work perfectly, no matter how good ur comp specs are.

I think Im on the limit of how much of the game I can run.

AMD Athlon 2600+ (2,08Ghz) though it is similar to P4 2,5 Ghz

768 Mb DDR-SD RAM (yeah I know upg ram, though I have better things to use my money on=p)

GeForce 6800 Ultra (256mb video RAM)

DVD 16X

Windows XP HE

Broadband

The ram is my only concern, but as long as it runs h5 on the settings that streak the line of quality and performance (propably medium) I just dont bother getting more ram :)

Ur specs are better than mine, and the beta ran OK on high for me with only 512 RAM.

My guess is that your machine will be just fine Orfinn. Don't spend money on any upgrade before you have played the final game.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.
