Second Beta Phase Tomorrow

Unread postby Kalah » 15 Aug 2011, 17:31

The second phase of the Beta starts tomorrow, August 16th. All fans who have preordered the game via a regular retailer or won a key in a community contest will be able to play. If you played the first phase of the Beta, you will only need to launch the Beta when it reopens and than the content will be updated automatically.

The changes made after the last Beta round can be found on this page and I gather that the official Beta page will be updated with even more relevant info as well.

Didn't know there would be another Age of Empires. Knowing that it's Online only makes it...unknowingly to me either way. :D Cannot play online.

It started. Graphically speaking nothing spectacular, otherwise good starting Beta version.

More fun? Some simplicity? Smooth graphic. The game is familiar but it's not just it, not yet.

This isn’t a criticism but it seems a lot of the changes are concentrating on multiplayer. I knew it has always been a part of the community, but has it grow to the point where it is a top priority, even over AI development. Again I am not upset by this at all just surprised. I don’t play multiplayer and probably never will. The main reason I even mention it is I wonder if the growth in multiplayer participation has minimized the need for a campaign editor to the point it might not happen. After all I don’t believe you can make a multiplayer campaign (though that might be an interesting project  ).

I believe a multiplayer campaign is possible in H4, it was an idea I was going to test but I couldn't even complete the second part of my crossover hero campaign so that certainly was out of the picture.

Yet they have made battles longer to boost the main killer of MP - waiting time. No simultaneous turns, ghost mode or RMG either. Thus they hardly are specifically aiming MP or prioritizing it over everything else. I doubt that they are aiming anything specifically at all. Rather making changes based on how random ideas come and go and just hope that it will turn out cool.

I would think there might be a problem carrying over heroes dead and the end of the game, so victory conditions would have to avoid that. Sorry this is off topic. :S

I can't get H6 to update to the new beta... I even re-downloaded and reinstalled, but it won't upgrade!

Did anyone else have this problem?

Avonu,

Thank you! It required three updates, but I eventually got to version 1.3!

I had thought the game would automatically update as stated on the website.
