JVC Working on a New C&C

Unread postby Angelspit » 21 Feb 2011, 19:04

There were news today of a new Command and Conquer game, a franchise familiar to many of you I'm sure, developed by Victory Games. This studio was formed specifically for the development of strategy games at Electronic Arts. <a href="/http://worthplaying.com/article/2011/2/ ... playing</a> notes that Victory Games is headed by none other than Jon Van Caneghem, the creator of the Might and Magic series. Jon is joined by many Command and Conquer veterans to bring the series online. Prior to joining EA, JVC worked with NCSoft and Trion.

JVC Working on a New C&C

It seems JVC can not settle anywhere, after the dissolution of NWC. Let's see if this time he does.

Yeah, I was about to write something similar in the news item, and then thought it sounded too negative. Although his resume since 2003 speaks for itself.

Didn't they end the series? Ah, who cares, something that awesome made by someone that awesome can't fail! *Is hopeful EA redeems itself*.

I also hope JVC stays there through the whole thing...

Woah, C&C + JVC? That's two awesomes in one. Hopefully something good comes out of this!

By the way, interesting that he's in EA now, after all NWC was a part of 3DO whose CEO was also the creator of EA.

I'm happy for Jon, but I hope he isn't ousted from his position before completing the game for a change.

Any Westwood guys on the project?!

Oh well, it's not like they haven't already made CnC into another game long ago anyway, so giving a RTS to a TBS guy won't matter in this case.

They've already ruined the game. If he can make something of it then power to him, but I doubt anything good is set for the future of C&C.
Infiltrator out.

As CC fan I can only say that since he worked in EA since 2k9 then when C&C 4 wasnt out yet, and if we consider that he had any input in that "thing" then I think he should be shot along with the rest of the team despite any good thing he did with homm/mm. Kain's saga "Ending" was even more frustrating than matrix revolution for me, although they have much in common in department of built up questions and quality of answers. If not he better do something to pull it out of abyss where EA pulled it. C&C3 and Kanes wrath had some very good moments and was decent game(pretty good even), but after that C&C brand just fell to the dirt.

1 year is hardly enough time to make any good changes to a game...

3DO disagreed... and promptly went bankrupt.

Probably not even a reboot will save that brand now...

Something being a reboot is never an indication of quality... and it only helps when the previous story has gotten too stupidly convoluted... but even then you can always just ignore the parts that where bad instead...

what they need to save the brand is a good game... a good C&C game.

Exactly. I haven't heard of any good reboots of series which have numerous games. Sequels, on the other hand, may very well work.

C&C 4 was such a travesty that the franchise is dead as far as I am concerned. I doubt even JVC can revivify it.

Further desecration of CnC? That abomination Tiberium Twilight was not enough?

It's EA... they'll never stop. Especially not now that Activision has taken the #1 spot as most evil publisher and they need to catch up.

If they want to catch up so desperately, they should close down a few of their own studios like Activision did. Also sitting atop on their mound of unused IPs like a dragon on its treasure is not a mark of good behavior either.

Anyways, screw them.

They still do that these days? And I thought that what Atari did with Legend Entertainment as an isolated incident...

They already did all those things long before Activision even thought about it... what they need to do is come up with something new...
