Official Site Update

Unread postby Kalah » 04 Feb 2011, 14:01

<p><img src="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/images ... wshorn.jpg" align=right hspace=10 vspace=10>The <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... ">official site</a> received an update today, with more creature animations and more stuff about the Stronghold:

<p><a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... Stronghold faction</a> description.

<p>New creature animations, along with their descriptions and abilities, have been added for:

<li>- 4 <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... ">Haven</a> creatures

- 6 <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... Inferno</a> creatures

- 2 <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... ">Necro</a> creatures

- 7 <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... onghold</a> creatures</li>

<p>The 3D <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... ">Kiril</a> model.

<p>The descriptions tell us of a Stronghold faction with great resistance to magic, and a strength- and speed-based <i>modus operandi</i>, less able when it comes to logistics and advanced tactics. I guess what this faction needs is a general who knows how to use its strengths to their fullest, and minimize its weaknesses as much as possible ...

It's nice to see they finally made some real additions to that site, but I have to say I hate the way they explain the unit's abilities. Do they have to tell a fantasy story about each one instead of just explaining what they do? I mean unless I see an actual shooting device in a unit's hands, I can't tell who the shooters are in these factions. Do the Sisters shoot, do the Glories shoot, do the Succubi shoot, do the Breeders shoot?

Hey Kalah,
Why is it that some links open in the same window and others in a new window?

Agree with King Imp.. they should leave the story thing and then just make a separate paragraph that just says what exactly the abilities do.

I wonder why are the icons of the races placed like that at the top of the page. The orc one seems to be very close to the necro one for for me. From my calculations there are 7 spots for races there...

I have to say the site looks great, but I do agree with you guys that a clear line should be drawn between the "imaginative" description of a unit and the "technical" description of its abilities; though I did enjoy some of the tongue-in-cheek comments, so keep those coming as well!

Also, most of the units do not look nearly as good as 3D models as they do in those art pics; Overall, the griffin is the worst looking unit for me, and the vampire the tackiest/most overwrought. The ghoul and harpy are my favourites.

@unreal_az

Perhaps something's amiss with your display/monitor? All of the racial icons are spaced the same distance from each other, and there's room for exactly one more - the yet unrevealed faction, though I'm more and more certain it is Naga after catching their name in the description of the ghoul unit.

Hmmm... the palette swaps look less so in-game... i guess it was just the artist being lazy, and not a modelling shortcut... well at least not a lazy shortcut...

Crag Hack is mentioned in Harpy description. Cool. Hope Solmyr, Sandro and Crag Hack are same ones from Enroth.

They can't be, Ashan has nothing to do with Enroth. They just included them to make the older fans happy, I guess. Doesn't make any sense, but you can be sure they won't be part of the story (I hope they're not, at least).

I agree with King Imp. I really do not care about the story. I want to play the game! Tell us what the units do and fill in the fluff later.

I know, didn't work for me either, was just silly and unexplainable. But that's old news.

Meh, there's nothing really wrong with having a hero that looks and is named just like one from another setting. The problem with H5 was that the references where pretty lame...

For me it was far too little and far too late. They create a game with many of the same creatures, factions, so on, but the one thing that kept the previous chapters united was the heroes. You may remember the outcry when Heroes IV did not bring in more of the heroes from H-III. So bringing in a handful for the current games is a pitiful attempt at best.

I don't know... if we actually get a good heroes game by #9 it would at least be something...

@jeff & ThunderTitan

I like the way you guys think, but I think that "suffer" is too strong a word. My wife and I still play H5 TOE, and we think that H5 TOE as a game plays better than H3. Of course, I do not try to minimize the problems with a broken story line and crappy editors, those are real problems with H5. As for the past, we are among those older fans that think H4 flopped as a game as well as breaking the story. In this regard, we don't really care if the old, classic heroes appear in H6. In fact, we greatly desire new great heroes, and a new great story, and that appears to be what is coming, or at least we greatly hope that that is the case.

Based on what little real information we have about H6, we are optimistic and will buy it as soon as it comes out.

I am assuming you mean you and your wife, as I do not consider H-IV a flop and many of us old guys don't. I still play it regularly. I have banned all forms of H-V from all of my computers.

If UBI is smart (there is a contraction in terms) and goes back to an enchanced H-IV editor, then I am in.

@ jeff --

Regarding H4, I respect your opinion, though I disagree.

Regarding H5, while I enjoyed some success with the H5 map editor and scripting, it was so time consuming and tedious that I eventually had to quit making H5 maps. And, I never could find the time and energy required to put a campaign together.

Regarding H6, one of my many hopes for the game is that the editors are good enough for me to see your work in H6. I would love to play a campaign with a well written story and good progressive game play that makes sense as it spans multiple maps.

How about you wait for a few reviews first... maybe a demo...
