ForumTalk: The Little Board of Helpers

I just read through a topic that reminded me of how quickly and thoroughly our board members rush to the aid of newbies in need. In this thread, a new player asks for suggestions which H4 maps to play. Within 7 minutes Psychobabble has directed him to his collection of map reviews. A little later the same player asks for a link to the patches and the Equilibris mod, and lo! within 15 mins Igoraki has led the way. What can I say? That's, like, pretty decent service, man.

There are many examples like this one on the Round Table, old and new, and the move seems not to have interfered with the members' attitude towards newcomers. People are eager to help in any way they can, practically rushing in to be the first to help; it's as if whoever gets there first gets a million dollar prize! And the diversity of the Heroes Round Table is as great as ever, it seems. Technical questions, map picks, graphics, interviews; HoMM 1, 3, M&M9 quests – nothing is beyond the knowledge of this lot. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: if you've got a problem, don't know what to do? Who ya gonna call? No, not the Ghostbusters – just go to the Round Table, and they'll take care of you.

This one goes out to all you helper-folks (and you know who you are) : Keep up the good work! :)

Thats the reason why CH nad The Heroes Round Table is the waarmest, most enjoyable places to be in and discuss in without being called nOOb 100 times a day.

I didnt say I was called n00B a 100 times a dday, but I have witnessed on other forums retards that pretend to be so cool, freezing out a guy for no reason at all. So dont stretch it boy or you will regret it in some way.

So be a good boy and eat your dinner each day and praise instead of curse the persons who try to help you ;)

You mean back in the golden ages when every post was on-topic, well thought out and great fun to read? Not much happening then, I'm afraid...

But when was that? In what year? And that curiosity of mine also subtly implied "when did each moderator become a moderator?" ;) .

It was in late 2001. The first moderators were the administrators of the affiliate sites who chose to sponsor a specific forum (www.heroes4.org and MapHaven, if I remember correctly -- there wasn't a gazillion of fan forums back then) , but they have been gone for a long time. Afterwards, I started giving mod powers to the regulars, mostly people I liked and who could stay calm in a heated discussion. I can't remember who were the first ones; probably Ethric and Kalah.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Dragonsister was a mod? Funny, I can't recall that. I know she posted only a little bit... Anyway, despite joining up before even Ethric and Kalah ( 8| ), I didn't become a mod until about a year and a half ago, after there were some troubles in the WoG forum.

*visions of teams of RT helper staff sitting over their keyboard frantically hitting F5 to see if anyone has asked a new question in the last 30secs* :).

Btw when did I become a mod? I got no idea :). Was it long after ethric?

I came here in 2002, but I don't remember who were the mods then. I joined the Quill in 1997 I believe... so I've been "around" quite a while. :) But in my experience, things are usually more on topic when there's a new game released. Expect a flurry of activity after H5 is put out.

Right, but it looks like it'll be in the technical support section...
