Clash of Heroes Diary & Preview

Unread postby Angelspit » 08 Jun 2009, 15:34

There is a short developer diary about <a href="/http://events.us.ubi.com/might-magic-cl ... es/">Clash of Heroes on the Ubisoft Web site</a>. The two developers, Romain de Waubert and Erwan Le Breton, barely mention the game at all and instead talk to us fans about expanding the Might and Magic franchise on other platforms. They credit the community for their work during the past years regarding maps and mods, and nod to the largest Heroes sites across the world (thanks!).

Elsewhere, on <a href="/http://e3.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/69 ... l">G4TV</a>, there is a short preview of the game along with screenshots. Here is a description of how battles will be handled:

<i>"What sets this apart from most games in this genre, however, is how when you get to the aforementioned turn-based combat, the game becomes more of a puzzler. The idea is that you have to line up three of the same color units, with three vertical matches resulting in an attack, while three horizontal matches form a defensive wall. These matches are made by moving characters with the stylus, kind of like you would in Bejeweled. Not that you can just move your units all willy-nilly; you can only move so many per turn, though there are occasional special attacks -- such as a magic arrow -- that don’t count as a move."</i>

We didn't hear much about Clash of Heroes during E3. Let's hope Ubisoft will manage to generate a little hype before the release in August.

So are there any signs that might even remotely suggest that Ubisoft is contemplating doing something with the HOMM series... as we know it? The Clash of Heroes preview seems several steps backwards from the V release. If nothing else, I would be happy for them to release a user-freindly map making tool for V so that the user community could more easily perpetuate the title. Seeing no clear intentions for a VI or additional expansion is concerning.

Lol, two months later and Erwan is still sitting there calling it a surprise. :applause:

Indeed, the timing was quite bad. Ubisoft asked for a permission to take a screenshot of Celestial Heavens on April 29, so they might have been working on that movie for a while. But I wish they did that more often, even if they had to use a cheap webcam. With the recent silence, I miss Fabrice.

Well understood, AS. I take this as a sign. One of many, that is, though it shows a promising future. Let all the modcrafters, mapmakers and maptesters rejoice for the time is getting closer. May all of us keep up the good work on our various projects involving Heroes. Then again, let the competition reign. The market may force out the next title from Ubi.

I don't really have a ton of interest in this game, even though I am one of the few DS owners in this community. I would rather have a Heroes VI, which is obviously in some form of development because V sold very well.
Back from the dead? Maybe.

I'd like to add some translated subtitles to this video for the spanish community Torre de Marfil, so I was wondering if someone of you could do this favour typing the english ones, so I can translate them. I can understand almost all the conversation, but I got lost on a few points. Anyone brave enough? :proud:

I will wait until I tried it before I pass judgement. However the art style seems so out of place, and it doesn't seem like it's well done at all either. I'm cautiously optimistic.

What I really want is basically h3 retooled for the format though.
