Lords of War and Money Turns One

Unread postby Angelspit » 12 May 2009, 14:05

<img src="ttp://www.lordswm.com/i/help/tavern_s_eng.jpg?ver=1" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>There is a free multiplayer Web game out there, <a href="/http://www.lordswm.com/?rid=233578">Lords of War and Money</a>, that borrows heavily on Heroes of Might and Magic V (as a matter of fact, it used to be called <i>Heroes</i> of War and Money). It's currently celebrating its first year of existence, so after such a long time I guess that Ubisoft doesn't mind the little... hommage. HodgePodge provided a <a href="/viewtopic.php?t=10043&highlight=">nice description of the game in the forums</a>:

<i>"The battles are real-time with people from all over the world & the monsters are directly from Heroes V. All the factions are there: Knight, Wizard, Elf, Demon, Necromancer & Barbarian. You can change your Faction every 24 hours so you're not stuck if you don't like what you've picked.

You can build up your own Castle & recruit your army from it. If you get killed in battle, your army is restored in 15 minutes. You can start learning your Skills (Talents) at Level 5 and many Artifacts are available. You can start casting Spells at Level 5 when you build a Mage Guild in your Castle.

To earn money, you can work in a variety of factories (each shift is one hour). You can play Arcomage in the Tavern with other real-life players from all over the world & can place a stake when you reach I think Level 1 in the Gamblers' Guild."</i>

Have you played this game? What do you think of it?

I played it some months ago and in my opinion it is... boring! It sounds good, the feature list looks good but the most important is missing:

Having FUN playing it.
If you're a German speaking fanboy of the Heroes series also visit Drachenwald

I'm having lots of fun playing Lords of War & Money. Obviously it's not intended to take up all your time 24/7. But it a great little online game where you can meet & do battles & play Arcomage with people from all over the world. Of course you have to play regularly & level up so you can take advantage of more of the benefits. :-D

Thanks Angelspit for posting this in the News. :)

I agree with Loco. I played for a while but there was not enough to do. the best part about it was the inclusion of arcomage, but I kept being paired with beginners and never lost, so I gave up on that too.

What I don't understand: Why do obviously talented programmers and artists like these mimic/copy the art of Heroes V (of all games)? Don't they *want* to be original?

What I don't understand is why people who haven't even played Lords of War & Money or if they have played, didn't give the game much of a chance. (You quit early in Level 2, archcorenth.)

I believe the programmers & artists who developed this little gem have done something very noble … that is to give a FREE online game to everyone on the planet. They're not making any profit, which in and of itself is ORIGINAL.

I've been playing for two months & always find a battle or hunt or card game to make the game very interesting. Furthermore archcorenth, I looked up your account and you only played 4 games of Arcomage. You won 3 and lost 1. Four games is hardly enough 'parings' to claim that you always win … which is a FALSE statement, since you did lose 1 of your games.

Of course, when you first begin, you're gonna get beginners to compete with. You should have stuck it out a little longer and maybe you'd have met up with some of the more excellent players. But then, some people only have criticism to offer in any discussion!

I saw this post a few days ago while checking for new maps. The game might be worth a look.

Well, now I'm at lvl 3 and sooo addicted. Sure, some parts of the game can be boring, but then so can any game. I got hooked part because of it looking like HoMM (which is still my #1 fav game), gosh if nothing else Lords of War and Money might hold my attention until HoMM 6 comes out.

I have two accounts HodgePodge. I started a new one shortly after making the first one because I didn't like the race I'd chosen (I only realized later that you can change your race easily). And yes, I guess I should have said I rarely lost.

Yay! I finally reached the long awaited & hard fought for Level 8 in Lords of War & Money. Now I have the Raise Dead Spell & have added Unicorns to my troops. :-D

Yes, Lords of War and Money is very fun if you're just playing it in between doing more important things ^_^

I'm currently working on a few videos comparing (and noticing the differences) between it and Heroes of Might and Magic 5.[/url]
