Sprite import is possible in MM7?

The role-playing games (I-X) that started it all and the various spin-offs (including Dark Messiah).

Sprite import is possible in MM7?

Unread postby vladimir-maestro » 27 Jun 2008, 13:17

So I have created about 125 sprites for new monster's appearance and wanted to import it in SPRITES.LOD...but had a problems!!

1) Editor from "stormcat" cannot import them cause do not support import inside that file.
2) mm8leveleditor do not import them but I do not know why - write something like "correct LOD data not find".

So no one of this programms want to import new monster's sprites!!!

Is there a way how to import my new sprites? Or way to contact someone who can do this? (developer of some importer\game designers)??

I wished to replace Nighon Warlocks -> flying elemental fairyes cause fluing warlocks without wings (walking on air) looks strange.

Ok. I'll post rar-archive.

The new monster is changed "dragonfly". I mind to do "emerald dragonflies"

All files are already modified and ready for import...if you could...

Here it is!!

Loooks cool! Note that in software mode it would need pallettes for each of 3 levels.
MM remake teams may be very insterested in your work. Russian World of Xeen 2 team for sure (they said they need 3D animators very much).

I added palettes but they still look incorrect! And visible only without 3D acceleration.

Send me a sprite and the palettes. The mail is sergroj (a} mail.ru
And here are the thoughts. They aren't ordered, 'cause I must go right now.
Yes, sprites are the hardest thing to import. Noone tried to do this before, I guess. In theory, the palletes should be added as PAL*** into bitmap.lod (AFAIR). Find the last used number and use numbers after that. Put the first palette twice (e.g. under numbers 600 and 601) and then the second and the third (602 and 603).
Then change the palette of sprites you added. Use the first number of palettes you added (600 in the example). It can be done with mmlod.bt from http://www.grayface.nm.ru/MMFiles.rar
MM7View probably have converted the sprites to original dragon fly palette, in this case you'll need to first change the pallette to your new one and then import the sprites once again.
There may also be a problem with adding palettes. AFAIR, MMView can only replace files and not add them. Palettes are stored as 256 color bitmaps of 0 width and height, with the correct palette.
I think dragonfly palette isn't used elsewhere, so you may change it instead of adding new ones. This will make things easier.

I will experiment with monster's sprites a little bit later.
I have an ideas how to do this but for now I had no time for that.
