Sound problems in MM7

The role-playing games (I-X) that started it all and the various spin-offs (including Dark Messiah).

Sound problems in MM7

Unread postby BMJedi » 23 Apr 2008, 17:07

I have a problem in MM7 where the sound keeps skipping, repeating, and making scratching noises and pops on voice tracks and some sound effects.

Does anybody know what causes it and/or a way to correct it?

I turned my acceleration down to the lowest level, and that seemed to work pretty well -- not problem-free, but close.

It would help troubleshooting to know your current sound configuration. I have a feeling that you're using onboard motherboard audio, but for any problem solving issue I approach with no assumptions.

I am indeed using onboard audio, however it seems so odd that it worked just fine a while ago. And still works great on my laptop.

If the update is the only change that has been done, have you tried using System Restore if you have Windows XP? Perhaps there may be some details on what the update did if it was from Microsoft. Or you could try a search on their site for it.

It seems the well used CD's are guilty, I tried to make a .bin of the play cd and loading it with daemon tools and it works flawlessly. Although the same cd's work like a charm on my laptop, sooo, some sort of cd-harddrive data communication issue I suppose, some sort of software acting up. (Its not my dvd reader either, other games work perfectly.

Anyhow, problem solved for me at least.

Well, some dvd players just can't read old disks for some reason. So it could be that, not that your dvd player is broken, he's just to good to read old stuff... :P
You can either agree with me, or be wrong...

Disc reading issues may be fixed by firmware upgrades of the drive. The manufacturer may have an update. I hope to see those Blu-Ray drives come to the market soon since they seem to be a LOT more durable than CDs/DVDs are and can store quite a bit of data.

You should modify some registry keys. The keys below always help me to fix this problem. I forgot what keys are essential and update all of them from reg-file.
