You knew it was coming... favorite M&M game!

Now, who didn't expect this after the HoMM poll :D

It would be interesting to know how many people here played them all... I only played MM6, MM7 and MM8 (barely started MM8 at that)

I was unsure at first, but have to give the edge to MM7.... I'm replaying MM6 right now and although those dungeons are nice and complex, it just feels too damn tedious to spend hours clearing out room after room after room of legions of identical monsters.

I added Dark Messiah just for the heck of it.

Dark Messiah? You're kidding right, I would not call that a RPG in the M&M tradition. 8|

Well, hands down Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven is the best oe I've played thorugh. (Haven't played Xeen)
Some say the big caves are bad for the game, but I say otherwise. They madethe game brilliant.

Personally I wouldn't count DM as a Might and Magic game either, seeing as it's action rather than an RPG. ;|

Other than that, this is tough. A few years ago, I would have said MMVIII hands down, but I've replayed it (and VI, and VII) and it doesn't replay as well as VII does. I'll have to think about it.

Has to be MM7. The light/dark branching is a very good idea. The skill system is also better than MM6 and adds replayability.

MM7

MM6 may have better dungeons, larger world, better plot but it has flaws - no balance between classes, skils and spells. Also too many enemies in dungeons - it takes longer to clear these huge labyrinths. Also, MM6 don't have invisibility spell.

Second is MM3 and 6 - large and difficult dungeons, good plot, interesting world.

Next are MM4-5 (connecting between two sides of one world and also sky world above one of them), MM8 (races, races skills and artifacts and also elemental planes) and at the end - MM9.

I didn't play MM1-2 or DM.

Many regulars here know my vote and why: Worlds of Xeen all the way!

Might & Magic VI! Might & Magic VII is fantastic too with many improvements … but I began my MM journey with MM6 and it's still my favorite. :)

Voted VIII. The inclusion of the laser weapons annoyed me to no end in 6 and 7. And since I haven't played the others on the list, it's a default victory.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

I feel obliged to throw in some love for Isles of Terra.

As for the other question, I've played all of them (but never completed the first two).

MM8. My first and, for a long time, only "pure" MM game.

I'm surprised that some think MMVIII is the best.
I thought it was way too short and way to unbalanced (dragons anyone?)

My choice is tough between MM6 and MM7, but I think I'd rather choose MM6. MM8 was great as well but clearly too easy. And Dark Messiah doesn't belong in this topic - it's an action game.

Clearly, Gaidal Cain admits his first MM game was MM8 … and if he hasn't yet played the other MM games, then for him, MM8 would have to be the best. ;|

Hmm, you're right. Omega_Destroyer also voted for MMVIII … he had a valid reason for voting for MMVIII … NO BLASTERS! :-D

So we're left with one anonymous person who voted MMVIII. ;|

There's quite a difference between "first" and "only", but yes, if I had started with an earlier game, I'd likely had preferred them. In a similar manner, my second favorite Heroes game is H2, even though I've only played very little of it apart from the demo, only because it was my first and I had som much fun with it.

Hiya folks.

I have completed MM 4 and MM 6. I am in the middle of MM 7 and I love it. I think it has the best story and the limits on skills (+GM level) make it more replayable.

While I think the dungeons in MM 6 were better I have little desire to replay the game after beating it once. I also lost interest around the time I got lloyd's beacon, because it was so easy to get away from danger, but I did want to finish the game.

MM 4 was definitely fun but I got tired of it and didn't feel like finishing 5.

Edit: voted 7. After that I'll play 9 but it sounds like I won't be changing my vote.

I voted for VII, but it was close with VI.

I played MMI-III back in the black & green monitor days of the 80's. I loved them, but don't remember them too well.

Never played IV or V.

I enjoyed VIII and IX (hated the graphics of IX).

But I have spent more time playing and replaying VII than I have spent on all the others combined.

I just got another copy of VIII, so maybe that'll change. :)
