With this version, everytime I try to start a new game... it crashes.
It works well if I load a saved game. Does this happen to everybody?

I remember the game crashing on me whenever I tried to change the UI to either MM6 or MM7 style while using a HD wrapper, and since this UI change persists on each save, perhaps the starting game has an UI that's not the default MM8 one?

If that's the answer, cthscr fixed it here, try downloading his file and replacing yours (make a backup just in case):

in localization(rus) there is no replica of peasant promotion

same thing here, but i have a pc without camera or trackpad.
mousepointer is locked in the middle of the screen and with moving the mouse you move the whole picture instead of the pointer
ive got a cordless logitech mouse if that helps with finding the error

edit: its only in the area view - menus and inventory etc. work fine (atm ill help myself with the keyboard)

No luck.
And maybe you misunderstood me.
It crashes when I click NEW GAME, and then select ANY start location... just before the Character Creation.
If I click LOAD GAME, and load an older save, it works fine.

It would be great if my bug is finally happening to somebody else, but that was after character creation with the old version...
Anyway, quick way(s) to check:
1. where are your savegames? In the install directory or somewhere else?
2. after you successfully load a game, can you save or does it crash when you try?

I have same problem as Roor
however if I first start game program then I load savegame, then make new game it works
same trick doesn't work if I do newgame again

I have this problem too after the new patch - game crashes when I select New Game on any continent.

Assuming that MMIX sucks as much as I've read it does, how is MMX? worth it?
i honestly can't answer it, its somewhat better then the 9th, but i couldn't get myself to play too much on it, i can't tell you whats wrong, if its the lack of decent paperdolls or storyline, but something in it sets me off, big time.. :canthear:

mm x is worth it ... combines the feeling of the old "square after square" feeling with new grafics and techniques.
and yes there is a storyline - but its also connected to homm6 and 7 somehow - so you have to know that games too to understand it.

Just discovered this little marvel of a mod (Thank you so much to everyone involved. I think I'll start to customize the grafic of the objects as soon as I will be able to make a full playthrough as creators present it).

Sadly, I experience this same bug. After the first launch and after the first char creation, if I make a new game from the main screen the game crashes after I select one of the continent (when the starting video should kick), before char creation.

As others mentioned, a workaround is to load a previously saved game, and then clicking "New game" from it. Then it works fine.


Also, I tried to add the optional mod to unlock char creation, but despite adding the two text files in the folder, the game doesn't let me mix races and classes from different continents. Do I miss something?

Hello.
If you experiencing crash upon starting new game from main menu, try to launch game in hardware mode, disable/switch compatibility mode of .exe .
I will upload update this weekend, where the bug is fixed. Also you can apply hotfix right now:

you need to replace one file in data/tables
the one about starting characters (with the one arriving with unlocker)

doesn't work
so only characters who benefit from "starting racial skills" are dracoliches (another condition)

the line is line 300 in MenuChooseCharacter.lua on community branch

edit: it seems to be a problem with "RaceSkillsAlternate" and not the script
edit: I suggest using https://drive.google.com/open?id=1st4nk ... ktyhH7OfLu as new RaceSkillsAlternate

its a question of taste i guess
i know there is a storyline, and i know ashan well, but i just think the storyline..suxxorz.
i also dont think there are enought reffrences and easter eggs to continue the tradition.
