Rain of items fall from sky in mm7

The role-playing games (I-X) that started it all and the various spin-offs (including Dark Messiah).

Rain of items fall from sky in mm7

Unread postby koval321 » 13 May 2012, 15:55

Am probably witness moment when new items are generated on map after peroid of time, it looks like rain of items such like herbs etc fall from sky and land in ground around me. Have seen this in twice lately, in Tatalia island some of them land in water and sound of splash can be hear. Am now known how engine works, items are generated in air above ground and they fall by gravity.

there are no Z coordinate in mm6-7/ jnly X & Y - that why you cannot place items vertically. the same with monsters...even in dungeons O.o they fall from above until they collide against surface. in dungeons - polygons got 2nd side that is passable - thats why monsters do not fall on the roofs

Huh. Sounds very much like what the DOOM engine did in the early days.

Nah, there's a true 3D engine in MM6-8, while DooM is a raycasting 2.5D. :)

Would like to know what causes this. It happens to me almost every game after about 6 months gametime whenever I come back to Harmondale.

Also, how can there be no z coordinate when there are creatures that fly?

Things respawn over time. That's normal.

I think it's not as much there not being a Z coordinate as not being able to spawn things using a Z coordinate (it's presumed to be maximum?).

It doesn't seem like a respawn issue unless I missed that there were mounds of Erudite Ore and Mercury that sit by the outside of Castle Harmondale (and the field south). In the start of the game there are only phirna roots and the yellow 1 power herb.

It's mixing up the areas that the loot is spawning in. I've seen Tularean Forest items fall in Deyja before (as in, the whole Tularean Forest loot map recreated in another area).
You'd think Darkmoor was a ghost town, but instead there's plenty of life among the dead.
