Speaking of Might and Magic (7) I recall being utterly dumbfounded regarding this picture that appears on the box:



Ideas regarding it? Or is it just promotional?

I think that it's exactly Photoshop.

It's promotial and probably screens from beta/unfinished game.
Sometimes, you put different things in one location, to see how they work.
You can also see that minotaur desing was changed between this screenshot was taken and game was released.

There are also screenshots with skeletons in Temple of Moon on Emerald Isle or Evil Eye in Temple of Baa in MM6 or Lightning hit from sky Regnan Pirate in MM8.
Also in first box of HoMM3 you have different building in Rampart town screen.

This screen is from work in progress (and as we can see, it was changed) but it was taken by/sent to Marketing Departament to promote game. Same as screens and artworks from Forge - they all were from WIP and could changed before Forge was released... but ofc it was cancelled.

Haha even though it was just promtional, it still makes me laugh. I had seen the picture before.... but I had never realized that the minimap placed it on Emerald Isle.... lol XD

That interface art is actually still in the art files, if you look it over with MMView. I'm personally much happier with the finished product, though.
