Hi there, I only recently found this forum, when decided to replay MM7 after several years. Firstly I started a ranged combat party which was TRAD It was quite fun, though i didn't go far yet. Anyway, while playing I somehow decided I really want to try out a full melee party.
I don't want to have two characters of the same class and also it would be great if the party did not include cleric or sorcerer, as all those times I have finished the game I have included both of them. So I'm leaning towards KMPA party, so I have both clerical? and elemental magics to master level, While also having all the characters extremely potent in melee.
Basically one question arises, will I do well enough without Grandmaster spells and light or dark magic? Or would you suggest some other possible builds?
And I know the races don't really matter, but what would you suggest? I'm thinking of Goblin/Human/Dwarf/Elf? Would go with more goblins, but I really hate all their portraits apart from the default one. Still if you guys would think it matters enough I would probably be willing to change it Thanks in advance guys
Melee party
To answer on this particualr question - you probably would be fine without light/dark, most spells can be replaced to an extent from other schools, but you will run in seriously frustrating (i wont mention beacon as it makes life infinitelly easier, but it can be lived without) without GM body, as you will get one hited at many places like maze, Lincol, tolberti/robert fight and some others, and there pretty much isnt alternative for it. Of course it can be done without, but prepare for some frustration specially if you don't posses in-depth knowledge of game and its features/exploits.Basically one question arises, will I do well enough without Grandmaster spells and light or dark magic? As you mentioned it matters relatively little. There is some slight things like extra endurance on dwarf and thus no sickness from garbage piles, etc, but since that matters so little just take depending on portrait. And I know the races don't really matter, but what would you suggest?

If you really don't want Sorcerer, Druid, Cleric in your party, I would suggest at least replacing the Monk with a Thief. He's more useful imo, having some abilities that no other classes have. Whereas the Monk is just a lousier version of the Paladin most of the time (even in melee).
You'd think Darkmoor was a ghost town, but instead there's plenty of life among the dead.

Thanks guys Decided to finish with my evil shooting party first though, and then try out the goodie melee party
Anyway, not create new topics. Just finished the obelisk quest, and got the lady's escort ring. But don't really understand what that 'of protection' means? Does that mean, she's kind of immune to everything the "protection from magic" protects from? If so is it master or GM level? Or does it give something else?

At least in MM6-7, "of Protection" means +10 to all resistances. Although, isn't there also an item in MM8 that grants +40 to all resistances?Double_Trouble wrote:Thanks guys Decided to finish with my evil shooting party first though, and then try out the goodie melee party

Myself, I'm using a PARD party right now. I'd say it's about 70% effective in both magic and melee. You have to live without the Mirrored Magics, Lloyd's Beacon and GM Prot Magic, but this party is actually fun to play anyway. I suggest you try it sometime. I already have and right now I'm making a Dark playthrough... I can't resist the temptation lately and I'm keeping on succumbing to darkness
