Perhaps 20+Ring of Dark Magic or something.

And NPCs boosting magic skills.

??

30 levels of Dark Magic equals 464 skill points. You get 5 skill points per level trained, which makes for 92.8 levels, thus 93 levels.

(2+30)(30-2+1)/2=464. You're good calculator! Though..
hatsforclowns wrote:You get 5 skill points per level trained.
.. is not true, it's only until level 9. For reaching level 10-19 you get 6 points, for 20-29 - 7 points and so on. So, to collect 462 points you're to train until level 61 (and eat one horseshoe).
I've mistaken as well: 93th level grants 856 skill points, and it's enough to train only until 40th level, you have to eat 2 horseshoes to level Dark Magic to 41th level. I've occasionaly taken 5 skill points for reaching 1st level into account, lol.
I've used Microsoft Excel to calculate:
First page is to calculate points for leveling. The first column for numbers 2-100. It's experience level. The second is formula =5+INT(A1/10), copyed along column, it's points for reaching level. The third is formula =sum(B$1:B1), copyed along column. It's a points total for level.
Next page is to calculate points to train skill until some level (filled much the same).

4 necros + 1 cleric comes to mind, considering Dark magic spam works pretty well in the earlier two games. since you get an extra character and light magic buffs such a party might even me a more impressive sight to behold than an MM7 Dark magic spam party.

What I love about MM8 is that it provides more areas than MM7 where you can exp well. Back in the old days when I was a wee lad, I used to have my characters at lvls around 150. Also, I recall my female lich somehow getting Dragon Ability as a skill. Obviously a bug, but how awesome was that.

Did you create all 5 of your characters from level 1 (using MM8CHE) or you recruited Vetrinus, Nathaniel, Karanya?

Because let's face it, they (especially Vetrinus and Nathaniel) are horribly overpowered.

I recruited Devlin Arcanus, Vetrinus and Nathaniel and started the game as a Necromancer. I don't think it would have made too much difference if I'd started the characters from scratch. Dark magic skill is the only thing that matters much towards the end and there's plenty of characters to divide elementary magic skills between for utility purposes. I didn't see much of a point in raising elemental skills beyond level 10.

I wasn't able to recruit the female Lich in Shadowspire. Kept complaining about the war with the Clerics keeping her busy. Probably because I chose the Clerics in the loyalty quest (hadn't done the necro quest before and couldn't be bothered to find out how).

All this being said, recruiting is part of the game. Sue me if I exploited it. :P

Pay visit to the Temple of Light with Dyson Leyland in you party, pull the button on the wall, then descent into basement, another passage has opened, follow it and you'll find the required brazier.
Now you choose to just enter and pick it and kill all this pesky clerics, or steal it with Telekinesis and then escape with Town Portal.

Just started playing MM8.

After playing MM7 only for so many years, MM8 looks a bit odd - hiring people along the way is strange to me. It's like I cannot get fond of them, dunno.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask if is there any hard dungeon in the beginning as we had in MM7 (Emerald Island), to test our survival abilities, or must I suffer the normal levels for long?
