Do we need a modding wiki?

Unread postby solitaire345 » 08 Mar 2011, 23:25

Hello.
As you might (or might have not) noticed, recently there was a move of all content of might and magic wiki here http://mightandmagic.wikia.com/ from wikia servers to CH at http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/. Also not so recently there was another move of some content from other wikia site http://heroesofmightandmagic.wikia.com. This means that there are three wiki sites covering Might and Magic games and two of them aren't used.

Might and Magic games have great modding potential and there's a huge amount of various modding articles and tutorials and other information, scattered around at least four forums (HC, CH, CoreWOG forum and DF2) and several other sites and this makes navigation around them quite a difficult task. I suggest puting all the content to these unused wikis for convenience. I think we can use this wiki http://mightandmagic.wikia.com/ for Might and Magic content and this one: http://heroesofmightandmagic.wikia.com for Heroes content.

Please reply would you use or contribute to the wiki and share your ideas if you have any.

Since most topics are lorewise and homm intersects with mm on regular basis, not to mention new ubi branding policy I think there should be as centralized wiki as possible. Also quite many articles double each other on both clestialheaven and wiki anyway.
Personally I would like to contribute to them , but lately I have very little time so I have contributed only to couple articles so far.
Also IMO wiki should have little bit sticker policy to fan fiction articles since there is quite a few fan fiction referred things without canonical cover and without appropriate non canon disclaimer.

There is already a tag for that at both wikis actually:

http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... e:Noncanon

If you see any made-up crap (there is a lot of it in old articles), just flag it with this - it takes two seconds :P

In my opinion, modding wiki shouldn't contain any lore material and if there's a need for such material, it can be linked to the CH wiki.
Many (actually almost all) articles double on CH and wikia, because all the content was copied from wikia pages to CH.

My opinion is that it would be great to see the Wikias repurposed for modding and the lore articles gotten rid of, but I doubt Wikia would stand for it.
I was able to get the scope changed pretty quickly from just HoMM to the entire MM series and KB, though, so why couldn't you succeed?
