MM7 wont install

Unread postby blomman » 13 Nov 2010, 12:22

I have windows 7 64-bit

I can run the "sold out software" thingy but when i try to install the game nothing happends

If i turn off all programs and try installing again then the setup goes instantly to 99% and then to 100% and then it just stops for a couple of minutes and then nothing happends, it just goes away.

I've tried putting everything on windows 98 compatability mode

I really want to play this game again would be nice with some help :)

Did you make sure to disable your anti-virus? Or do a clean boot?

Try disabling the User Access Control and running the installer as Administrator.

My advice is to make a partition at your hard disk with
win xp (or any other OS you want) and at boot to select
which one you want. Helps a lot at running older games.
Can't help at win 7 btw, I am still using XP.

I guess I could do that but it's only for one game so I was hoping for an easier solution

Well, the fact that it disappears looks like something's wrong with InstallShield. It obviously runs just fine. So try and rename/move the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield then try again.

I'm out of ideas, then. Though you could use Windows XP mode to install the thing and then play it normally through Win7.

It is the 64 Bit OS, Might and Magic 7 can't install right..

Unread postby Rune_Caster » 14 Nov 2010, 11:05

You will need a 32 bit OS either Windows Xp x86 or Win 7 x86 (32 bit OS)

I had the same problem Installing Might and Magic 4-7 in Win 7 and Win Xp x64 (64 Bit OS) best to create a partion on your Hard drive and install Win Xp x86 or Windows 7 x86 (bear in mind if you install Win Xp x86 you will also need to repair Win 7 with it's install disk - always install the older OS first then install the newer OS or the older OS will not know what to do.)

No, you don't need a 32bit OS. I've installed it numerous times on 64bit just fine.

And there is no reason to search for Windows CDs, Windows XP Mode is free. Just download it and run.

You can run Might and Magic 4-7 Installs maybe using compatibility for Windows 95/98, but in Windows XP Professional x64 I couldn't even get the install to open. It would always give me an error when I tried to launch it. The main problem is Might and Magic 4-7 are 16 or 32 bit processes, so it is natural that a 64 bit OS might have trouble interpreting the data sent to it in 16 bit form or lower with out some kinda of conversion program (think dos box)

I would still recommend going to a 32 bit OS as running a virtual machine is not the same as running a true application in the original environment it was designed for.

No no no, not MM4-7, but MM1-5. The installer for the MM4-7 pack might have 16bit code, though, but not if you install them separately. But MM6+ are purely 32bit.

To see if the error is caused by the fact that the installer has 16bit instructions, doubleclick on it, and if it says "This is not a valid Win32 program" (Win7) or "This is for a machine other than the current one", then it's 16bit or corrupt. 32bit+ programs don't give this error message, and if they fail, that's not because of bits!

So, in short: MM6 and higher are completely 32-bit. Installer failures have nothing at all to do with bits there, unless you have a compilation with a really old installer.

First of all, do you have SP2 installed? Secondly, do you have any anti-virus programs running? You can often see installers asking you to close all programs before installing, but it's usually disregarded; however, in case of MMs, they are not kidding. You must close all the programs before it starts installing, and that includes anti-virus tools and such.

I have this problem two days ago and i fixed it.

1. You can run as administrator. (right click on your install file)

2. You might have a different installer file with me but you should go with direct setup file in setup folder.

3. Wait, for 10 mins until install wizard pop up. It's kind of long but they will show up.
