Mysterious reputation loss

Unread postby forbjok » 22 Apr 2010, 15:18

I've noticed that sometimes my reputation seems to decrease for no apparent reason.

For example, before entering Abandoned Temple I had around 200, but then later when I came back to town after being there a while, I noticed it had gone down to around 20. If I recall correctly, that was before delivering the girl (rescue quest), which brought it up to almost 200 again after delivering it.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

Some quests lower reputation, like bringing candle holder to Andover patabello.
But if you mention numbers I suppose you mean fame, a that is stat that pretty much dont have serious effect upon gameplay. Dont remeber mm6 too well, but i think that number is never supposed to decrease(somone correct me if I am wrong)

I remember vaguely that there's a mod that shows numbers on your reputation, so probably he is really talking about reputation.. Makes more sense to me. In which case, yeah, delivering the candelebra to Andover Potbello lowered his reputation. Same as delivering the letter to him.
You'd think Darkmoor was a ghost town, but instead there's plenty of life among the dead.

Yes, I do mean reputation. GrayFace's patch adds a numeric value to that as well.

Maybe it was Potbello's quest that did it then.
Not sure if I checked my reputation any time in between delivering the candelabra to him and rescuing the girl.

But my reputation does seem to sort of have a life of its own, occassionally going up or down by a point or two for no obvious reason.

What things are considered "bad", other than the obvious ones, such as killing innocents (which I haven't done), or doing quests for bad people?

There is several factors that decrease rep.
Donating to baa temples
Selling bones.
Threatening peasants.(possibly asking too- not sure)
Fighting inside city limits( not sure too)
Probably lot of other too as well

Entering the Abandoned Temple of Baa (and other Baa dungeons) is also considered to be a bad thing. Probably people think that you're going inside to pray there or something.

Picking them up and selling them both decrease your reputation.

Freeing Archibald also decreases your reputation, ALOT.

There's a lot of bones inside Tsantsa Temple to pick...
But inside the Abandoned Temple is only candelabra. Note that rest also shifts your reputation a bit to 0.

When a new day starts reputation is multiplied by 0.99 with rounding to 0.

Macros, are you sure picking bones up lowers reputation?
[edit] Just made an experiment - picking up bones hasn't lowered my reputation.
My patches: MM6 MM7 MM8. MMExtension. Tools. Also, I love Knytt Stories and Knytt Underground. I'm also known as sergroj.

That explains it then. :)
Potbello's quest is the reason for it resetting to 0, and the occassionally lost point of reputation is due to it simply "decaying" over time.

I wonder if there's a reason for that behaviour... Is it like, "hey, you managed to survive one more day, I don't like you any more!" or what?

It's "what did ever romans did for us" logic, but most likely it is so you would have to keep it good at all times for game play purposes.
But seriously, rep system in such game with linear quest choices and little dialogue options doesnt really work too well.

I haven't played mm6 in long while, so can someone tell me if there is sure way to raise reputation at all times, except with donation and bards?
I e get to saintly if i have all quests finished and have neutral rep.

I remember reading this on gamefaqs. I'm looking it up.... <searching> <reading> <found>
10. Go everywhere, get everything (except bones), kill everything (except
peasants). Killing peasants and getting bones and selling bones lowers
your reputation.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised info on gamefaqs turns out to be wrong.. :)

I would guess the logic of it is that when you're not doing anything noteworthy, people start to forget about you, and so the reputation decays towards 0.

I haven't had a negative reputation, so I can't say this for sure, but my guess would be that if you have a negative reputation it would be gradually increasing toward 0 instead.

The reason why I may not see eventual loss of reputation is I monthly hunt for money for three City Halls. This also ups the reputation.

Killing peasants

Unread postby Rune_Caster » 09 May 2010, 05:26

Killing peasents in a town will lower your reputation in a hurry...

150 Reputation for any green peasant
100 Reputation for any red peasant

Ouch...

Green and red? Huh?
Yeap, killing peasants -= full category. However, donating to a temple += full category, and it usually doesn't cost much.
