Lookin' for a new home ...

Unread postby Big Daddy Jim » 25 Jan 2010, 12:35

After three frustrating days and countless failure attempts to upload TCC files and Modding Tutorials on the Filefront site, I have decided to search for a more stable, reliable site to host my modding files and my game files. The basic requirements are;

1. A single, separate site address where all of my files can be hosted. I don't want to have to upload seventeen files to seventeen different download addresses! I need a single site address where all of my files can be hosted and accessed by the MM community.

2. Reliable upload and download bandwidth.

3. Direct access to make changes/download new files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

BDJ

That appears to be a good site. However, in order to 'pay' for the service you either have to establish a PayPal account or an Amazon account. I've had problems with both in the past, and wouldn't 'touch' either with my hard saved $$.

Now if they simply had an easy payment method that didn't require joining either of these sites ..

Dream on ...

Thanks for the suggestion.

How much storage and bandwidth would you require? We might be able to help.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Oh! It's big ... roughly 750Mbytes (3/4 Gig!). I really don't expect more than 100 downloads during the life of the game, but one never knows.

I did try the 'free' options (limit 200Mb file size), just to see what the upload speed was. I let it run for about 10 minutes, monitoring this speed. It never exceeded 90kbps, and mostly stayed around 58kbps. About the same as the old POTS landline! This slow upload speed does not make this site an option even if I could resolve the payment options.

Thanks (again) for the suggestion.

My ISP gives me a few GIG's of space for web hosting, or whatever you call it. I have never used it. Would that work though, or does it have to be an actual "download site"?

Or maybe they will let us put it here?

Thanks for this suggestion. I actually just registered on this site and attempted to upload the 740M ZIPPed TCC file. The average upload speed is about 7kbp and the estimated upload time is about 1200 minutes (re; about 20 hours). My isp won't allow upload or download that exeeds 4 hours; it will automatically disconnect. For those who might say 'Change your isp' I respond

"You've never lived in the Republic de Panama, have you?"

Anyways, the available upload bandwidth is too slow to allow me to use it successfully.

Great suggestion; great site. But no 'joy'.

for Might and Magic I will support it. I can host your files for you. I have virtually unlimited bandwith and I pay for my own site.

Ok, I'll check periodically,

I know nothing about setting up a web page, but at least it can be done the way you want. My ISP is Bell/Aliant. I'm in Nova Scotia Canada; if that matters.

Have you tried working with the TELP Taverns? Working with any other site bears the risk of it going out of action. I wish I could help, but I reached the limit for size on my Web page a long time ago.

Good suggestion. Unfortunately, TELPS does not have the bandwidth to host the game.

Thanks for this site/link! I actually joined the site yesterday. The proceudre for uploading/posting files is a-bit cumbersome, but I did manage to submit an announcement for the final release of The Chaos Conspiracy. Let's see if it gets approved.
