The Legend of Erthia Poll - Character Sprites

Unread postby legendoferthia » 18 Jan 2010, 08:02

I am creating this poll beause I am still a little bit bothered with the manga sprites in the game. It is hard to come across animated non-manga character sets. My personal belief is going more for the rogue-like style of character sets. Which do you prefer?

I also put the poll on my website, if you want to vote there too it will help out a lot because I am going to post this same poll on a couple other sites.

I do love something new thus i voted for anime.

Also some suggestion, can you spend some of your valuable time for reading 1/2 Prince manga. They got some very cute character anime theme, you can find some good illustration for your work.

Although I respect anime-style artwork is far from
my taste. And imo is far from MnM style. So, i voted
rogue-like :P

I don't like anime stuff, but among those two maximus sets the manga one is a lot better.
Seeing manga sets in the video, I like them, also reminds me of bomberman graphics.
My patches: MM6 MM7 MM8. MMExtension. Tools. Also, I love Knytt Stories and Knytt Underground. I'm also known as sergroj.

I'll say the Rogue-style ones purely because they are dissimilar to Final Fantasy. I know it's a mix of the two series, and I do enjoy the FF games a lot, but from what I gather MM is supposed to be foremost in this fusion, hence its graphical style ought to take precedence. That isn't to say I wouldn't vote for a third alternative.

Well it seems the non-animated rogue like is taking the lead. I will wait until one of the options reaches 10, and then I will make changed accordingly.

Maybe having both variations of graphics to choose from in the game could be an option?

I wonder, wouldn't the Rogue sprites look pretty poor in the "adventure mode"? Watching an inanimate cartoon moving around would take a while to grow on anyone. :P

I have a suggestion - what about using the hero sprites from HoMM3 for adventuring? They're easily extracted, there's more than enough to comprise a party, they're animated, eight directions and they've got sound effects. They have battle variants as well which you could use in the side view, and keep the Rogues for the tactical phase where anims are unnecessary. Of course, it might look a little silly riding a horse into shops but there's no demand for realism; whatever fits and looks good is the priority.

Well, I guess I will be switching everything over to the non-animated rogue-like sprites. My website's poll voted:

Rogue-like = 10
Manga = 9
