ok. so i like the default UI the game comes with and didn't realize that the patch changed it. how do i change it to swap back to the default UI and keep everything else?

Remove UILayout line from mm8.ini. I just realized I forgot to mention it in the readme.

Hi. Thanks a lot for this patches. I've used them in MM6 and MM/ and they are amazing.

I have began MM8 game with 2.3.1 patch. It is working perfectly but I have an issue.
Playing with the game normally, without UI layout, I can see the cutter names (tree, plant, etc...) But when using 2.3.1 patch I do not see this elements. I can see houses, people, wells, barrels, usable items, fountains, entrances/exits, but not the clutter common items.

Am I doing something wrong? I think this items are the ones in ddeclist.bin.

Only in Software mode, no matter with or without patch.

Oh, what a shame. So, it is different as in MM7, right? I remember I can see the clutter items names with D3D.

Is there any possibility you can add this in your mod and work in HW mode?

They've probably done it deliberately, because sprites were targeted disregarding their shape, so fighting among trees must have been really annoying with them always getting in the way. It's also good for flexible UI, because the hint doesn't show and hide as often.

Hi, I have a problem with all your patches (2.0 and 2.3.1 tested) on Windows 10. I can normally run clear game but with your patch I can enter main menu, creation of character and game have crash after clicking to start playing. I found this problem after move with M&M games from my PC with Win8 to laptop with Win10, so I think it is some problem with compatibility of your patch with newest system. Should it work on it?

Ps. Also I noticed that bug is only for completly new game. When I loaded old saved games it works.

I use a laptop also and I have two integrated vgas. One from Intel and another from Nvidia. I have solved some problems limiting the vars:

WindowWidth=1920
WindowHeight=1080
RenderMaxWidth=1920
RenderMaxHeight=1080

(and press F4 for FullScreen).

Also, maybe it is needed to change the DeviceID detected in registry. Normally the MMSetup finds the Intel one, and I must change it to the Nvidia, which is not detected with MMSetup.

Ok, thats weird. In 2.0 Patch I just changed in MM8Setup Video settings to hardware (I also have Nvidia and Intel but there was only Intel) after launch game was looking disgusting ;P (very weird colors and tight screen). I cloded it and when I run Setup again there was no option to choose hardware for video and now everything in game is working ;P

In 2.3.1 Patch on hardware mod game is working normal, just interface was changed. But after reload Setup there is also no option to choose hardware again.

Hi Grayface,

First of all many thanks for your dedicated work on this MM series.
This is with ppl like you that we can still playing these old gems and with massive quality of life improvements.

My PC is running under W10.
I've installed MM8 through GOG.
I can launch it with hardware accel, no pb.
I've then installed 2.31 patch but then when I try to launch the game through the MM8setup with HW accel, i got a popup window: "failed to create d3d device"
I've searched forum for a solution and tried the following:
- tick MM8Setup.exe properties/compatible mode: tried Windows XP, 7 and 8 with no success

Any idea ?

FYI, I've patched MM6 with your patch too and no problem on this one...

What's your computer resolution, genjurro? If it's higher than 1920x1080, that may be why.

Put this in your MM8.ini file:

RenderMaxWidth=2048

yes my desktop res is more than 1920x1080.
I have tried with adding RenderMaxWidth=2048 to mm8.ini and now it works !

Hi, I have played few hours around new Sorpigal and got mm8.exe crash when I'm hitting ESC key to popup Config/Save Menu.

I'm assuming you're playing Rodril's merge mod. On the first page of his mod thread, he listed this:

Hello.

I've played a lot of the MM6-8 games.
I've noticed some bugs in this latest Patch 2.3.1. (playing in Ubuntu 18.04)

1) If you enter the Temple of the Snake in turn-base mode (doesn't matter which one of the entrances), and the recruitable knight Simon Templar is there and pops up to talk to you, and you select YES, to hire him, then then there is a bug crash. Anyways, I used to have similar bugs related to this pop up of Simon Templar in the Temple of the Sun in former versions as well.

2) This one bug I guess is a new one… it's really crazy: You can actually HIRE the Priest Deyson Leyland BEFORE the main quests are made!! It's something like this: you re-enter (that is, you enter it once, then exit, then enter again) his prison chamber and go directly to "Join". Normally, the player would not be allowed to hire him, until after completing some previous main quests and getting a main quest from at least one of his former masters (in Temple of the Sun or in Necromancer's Guild.

I hope "this is going to be useful!!"

no more crash, with ESC key or entering a dungeon
But I lost Better gfx and ultrawide resolution
