New Sorpigal with Source

Unread postby DarthVadre » 29 Nov 2008, 06:41

New Sorpigal: Source

I guess it's a go then
Here's my work on the stable:
Stable WIP 1.0
Stable WIP 1.4
Stable WIP 1.6
Stable WIP 1.9

I'm thinking I'll probably use bump mapping on the outside to make the texture look more 'real', though I'm not quite sure if the Source engine can handle bump mapping.

I voted no mainly since I'm not convinced Source could handle more than a few monsters at a time. The M&M series has been known for hordes of monsters from MM1 to MM8.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

I didn't vote because I don't know what the heck you're talking about.

Go for it - I for one would love to see it recreated with a newer engine. Throughout the MM series, the only thing lacking was real graphical quality in the actual game (ignoring cutscenes, which always looked great).

Sure, why not? The guys at the M&M warlords project are using a game engine (forgot if it was quake 3 or Unreal tournament) to re create levels from M&M VII
Back from the dead? Maybe.

looks too plastic, but if ya use some wood textures and age it abit (think oblivion) it will look nice.

That's because most of it isn't textured yet.

I'd love to give feedback.. but there's not much point when the thing isn't completed yet and all we can say is "it needs to look more gritty", which you already know :P

Well I did know. First you make a model, then you are making the textures...

And now *drum roll* Stable WIP 1.6!
You can expect a fully textured building within the next 24 hours.

I'll be working on the general store by tomorrow. It will take a little longer since it has much more detail to model, but I'll probably have more time to work on it as well.

And now for Stable WIP 1.9! The sign is going to be a separate object so it can 'hang' from the sign post (thanks to Source's physics), and swing in the 'wind'.

Now I just have to finish the windows and I'm done.

I'm not. :P
I want to see Free Haven or Tomb of VARN or Castle Alamos.

Serious, I liked to see city desing like in MM9 then just renew of old, good New Sorpigal (which was small town).
Or maybe Sweet Water from times before the Kreegan came (there was great forest surrounding this village)?

That's some very nice work so far. You are using the original MM6 textures, right?
