Heroes 3: my final solution to the Sir Mullich problem

Unread postby UndeadHalfOrc » 05 Sep 2007, 13:42

If you're like me and think that Sir Mullich is grossly overpowered (+2 speed to all units.... uh, yeah), you probably disabled him in all maps. Doesn't take all that long.

However, it probably frustrated you to have only 7 knights available instead of 8. And it doesn't feel right to use Roland or Catherine as standard heroes. How about the "missing" original 8th knight, Lord Haart? (Estates specialist... not the Death Knight in Adrienne's campaign)?

It turns out he's not really missing. Due to a bug, he simply does not appear in the hero list in the map editor, so you cannot edit him or place him on the map.

But he can be enabled/disabled.
To enable him, just access the hero list screen at least once before you save the map.
The disable him, open your desired map and quickly save without accessing any map properties tab.
(It needs to be from a freshly started map editor, or double-clicked your target map. You can't have opened other maps before within the editor.)

So if you want Lord Haart to replace Sir Mullich on ALL maps, quick and easy: double click on map, access hero screen, disable Sir Mullich, save, and close editor. Rince and repeat. That means, chances are most of your maps probably have him enabled already.

Lord Haart WILL appear in the hero selection before the game begins for Castle players as long as no more than 16 Castle heroes are enabled including him. (ie: you disabled Mullich)

Disabling Lord Haart is useful in maps where you want to restrict access to Knights, since you can't access Lord Haart's property screen: as long as he's enabled, he's always available to all players. That may be a problem on let's say, a Castle vs Inferno war where Inferno is prohibited from hiring Knights, but Lord Haart shows up!

Hope that was useful. Not many people know about this.
