Looks like Nival took the ol' Blizzard approach to Heroes 5.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

There are a few more here but you have made your point. I was aware of some units being alike but that's more than a simple coincidence.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

google only gives me old 40k miniatures... it's funny how both 40k and SC are more popular then their predecessor games.

I've got a treeman figure in my storage closet ... IIRC it's almost an exact match for the closed treants with the exception that H5 has more foliage up top ... My treeman is painted much more like the "beta" treant than in the web site below but this should give you an idea.

Old painted treeman

So if I have things right [HoMM = WH]:

1. Haven == Britonians [Close match]
2. Necros == Vampire Counts [Fair match]
3. Dungeon == Dark Elves [Exact match]
4. Sylvan == Wood Elves [Close match]
5. Fortress == Dwarves [Fair match]

Academy doesn't have a really good analagy in WH Fantasy.

Inferno's closest WH equivalent is Chaos Demon army list but even then I think the units that are similar are similar by coincidence more so than blatant copying. [The Pit Lord is similar enough to D&D / LotR that I don't want to say that's a Bloodthirster copy]

If it matters though I don't mind them stealing designs from WarHammer Fantasy. Considering that I like a cartoony feel anyway WH isn't a bad way to go .... maybe they're a little too over-the-top but still they're not bad.

If they copied the gargoyles to make this cubic crap then that's indeed going to piss me.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

I was going to be a smart @ss and say that google was your friend but now I can't find the link to the figs that I saw ....

For a picture [not of figs] you could see:
Drawing of gargoyles for WarHammer

While I don't have good figs I do have a description: .... (Source: Kenneth Madsen, The Realm of Adventures, March 1992)

Physique: Humanoid with a huge bulky body. They are usually about 6 feet tall, but that depends wholly on the type of statue they are being summoned into. Most common colour is black or grey, although it is said that some Gargoyles are capable of changing the colour of their skin at will. From its back hangs a pair of edged bat-like wings and a reptilian, edged tail. They also usually have goat-legs and ugly horned heads. The eyes of a Gargoyle are clearly visible when the Daemon is active, shining with a red, yellowish or bright green hue. The most terrifying feature of the Gargoyle is probably the long, razor sharp claws and enormous teeth, measuring between two and six inches.

EDIT: Here are the figs from RR12

If you are talking about WH Fantasy Battle than yes. But you also have WH RPG and there is some country called Araby.
