RAM me baby!

Unread postby Kalah » 04 Jun 2007, 22:52

Wheee! :-D

I can't believe how cheap new RAM chips have become lately. I was just browsing a web store, and the chip I payed about $300 for a little over a year ago, now costs only $56 !

In a few days I'll have 3Gb of RAM in my PC. NASA, CRAY, move over. :-D

My laptop can't take anymore RAM, so I'm stuck with 2 gigs. :(

Rumor has it, that RAM prices are about to start increasing again, due to cut downs in production.

I'm not buying any though, the 2 GB in my PC is more than sufficient for my current use.

Some ppl (with to much money) use that amount, or more, on the latest and greatest CPU or GPU. Why not on RAM??

Sorry, that was supposed to be 1.000 in Norwegian currency.
The correct price in USD is therefore ca. $126.

Ah. That makes a lot more sense. I paid $400 for two 1 gig sticks awhile back, so I thought $1,000 was quite excessive for a 1 gig stick.

Please never entitle a thread "Ram Me" again. People with depraved minds might get the wrong idea. (Right TT?)

my RAM was worth a fair bit, can't remember exactly but it was bought for the pre-DDR2 AMD chipset so it's just DDR400, works nice though

A RAM upgrade was the only way I could play Heroes 5 on reasonable settings.

I always thought my next upgrade would be a real powerful video card, but here I was, shopping for something else, when I stumbled over this chip at such an affordable price :)

When I upgraded my old laptop from 128Mb RAM to 256Mb it was like a new computer. I'm currently wondering if removing those two 128Mb chips and putting in some more powerful ones will make any difference. Thing is, with WinXP running on this thing on a PC with a feeble Celeron 850MHz CPU, I'm not sure if more memory is gonna do the trick.

it won't hurt, but you probably won't get the results you're looking for

the thing for me with computer upgrading is to buy expensive RAM, video card and motherboard, then make the thing last for about 4 years before upgrading

Like I said, I'm at my laptop's limits. I don't think there is anything I can really do to upgrade it further. If I could, I'd cram 2 more gigs into it.

Yeah. I used to have a desktop until my dad asked if he could tinker with it. Last I knew, it was in a dumpster. :flame: :flame: :flame:

I ended up buying the laptop I was given by NMU which worked fine until it started dying on me. I couldn't fix it because I was out of space, so I had to pick which drive to format to fix the problem. Thankfully I was able to save my important documents, but all those other files.... What a drag.

Since having a laptop in school is almost essential, I immediately went out and bought a replacement that was obsolete in 2 weeks. I would have liked to get an Alienware but I don't have 5k to throw down on a laptop and my benefactors weren't buying my pro-Alienware argument

So in otherwords, yes, that is my my main computer.

ahhh, yes, I'd like an alienware PC, but the shipping would be a drag, not to mention the upfront cost ....

but that's the beauty of the laptop, much easier to carry than a PC :)

Aye. Once I finally get a career job, I'm going to buy a sweet computer. Then the only thing I'll have to worry about is finding time to play games on it while looking for a lady and working.
