The Round Table Championship (season 1)

Unread postby Kalah » 07 Aug 2006, 02:56

We're starting up the old tradition again; if you remember the previous tournaments (here's season 2), they were not very well organised and featured only sporadic reports buried in spam - and the first year the matches were decided simply by virtue of a coin toss. This year it's time for something completely different. This seperate thread will be used (and possibly cleaned if it becomes too untidy), though this should not discourage the participants to discuss, brag, complain etc. about their teams' performance. Also (like last season), a set of dice will be used to give an exact score for each match. Calculated into the final score will be the bonuses from the position the captains play.

Rules:

- 16 teams participate.
- 4 groups will be drawn, each consisting of 4 teams.
- The 2 best teams from each group will advance to the next round, after which regular knock-out competition will commence.
- The score is decided by use of dice.
- A set of bonuses created by the positions of the opposing captains will be applied to the score.

Position bonuses:

Goalkeeper: (last line of defense)
+50% on extra time and penalty shootouts.
+20% (-20% to opposition's score) when facing a team with a Defender as captain.
-20% (+20% to opposition's score) when facing a team with a Forward as captain.
-10% (+10% to opposition's score) when facing a team with a Midfielder as captain.

Defender: (drilled at taking offensive players out of the game)
+30% (-30% to opposition's score) when facing a team with a Forward as captain.
-20% (+20% to opposition's score) when facing a team with a Midfielder as captain.
-20% (-20% to your score) when facing a team with a Goalkeeper as captain.
-10% on penalty shootouts.

Midfielder: (works very hard to destabilize both offensive and defensive opponents)
+20% (-20% to opposition's score) when facing a team with a Forward as captain.
+20% (+20% to your score) when facing a team with a Defender as captain.
+10% (+10% to your score) when facing a team with a Goalkeeper as captain.
-50% on extra time and penalty shootouts.

Forward: (experts on finishing moves)
+20% (+20% to your score) when facing a team with a Goalkeeper as captain.
+20% (+20% to your score) in penalty shootouts (or opponent's GK bonus reduced to +30%).
-20% (-20% to your score) when facing a team with a Midfielder as captain.
-30% (-30% to your score) when facing a team with a Defender as captain.

These bonuses will be taken into consideration when the dice is rolled and can be a deciding factor. For instance, if the dice is rolled and the score shows 3-3, but with a +20% bonus the 3 becomes 3.6, which is then rounded up to 4, and you win the match. Whereas if you happen to lose 1-6, it won't have much effect.
NB! Bonuses are not cumulative (i.e. if a defender meets a midfielder, the penalty is -30%, not 2*(-30%).

The Draw:

The four groups will be drawn on August 7th.
In War: Resolution, In Defeat: Defiance, In Victory: Magnanimity, In Peace: Goodwill.

Also,I know your saving comentaries just for the second round, but maybe you could write a few words here as well. Also,a running score sheet would be nice as well.

Taking all bets!Who will pass the knock out round?Wholl make it to the finale?Exact score?Come on,come on!!Give me your money and win me...err,I mean you a brand new car!!

And,as a final note: Go Unbridled Unicorns!Loosing one match is nothing! You can still win the war! :applause: for Blueskinned Hotties :applause: !

There are too many matches. Therefore expert comments will start in the playoffs. Until then it's just a BBC-like summary.

Seeing as Kalah has too many matches to provide gameplay highlights, the Gravyluvn CheesePotatoes have potato farmed out the work to a couple "common taters!"

Greetings sports fans... I'm Spud Starchsky!

And I'm Chip Dipper.

Spud: And we're here to tell you about the Gravyluvn CheesePotatoes!

Chip: That's right Spud! Most GravyDigger fan club members already know this but since some fans of the Twice Baked fan club have been known to be slow on the intake, we thought we'd reintroduce the team to you.

Spud: Returning as captain and striker of the Gravyluvn CheesePotatoes is none other than Gravyluvr. It is truly a veteran frontline with the return of the Burnanam twins, Uraram and Tururam, as the other forwards.

Chip: They're twins y'know!

Spud: That's right Spud!

Chip: Pol returns as the Right Winger, but with Schmerdro leaving via free agency and the loss of Blackie Dragontooth to a bizarre gardening accident, the GCP have brought up added some bright young talent to the roster. Sir William S. Titan (Rookie) takes over the Center Midfielder position and Fyl holds down the Left Midfielder spot.

Spud: Caradoc and Echo_ return as the Stopper and Sweeper, respectively, but with both Kristo and Pitsu leaving to organize their own squads, the GCP have had to go find some quality fullbacks to add to the line up. stefan.urlus (Rookie) will hold down Left Fullback. Orfinn, who has always been brilliant wherever he plays on the field was originally slated to take over as keeper but then the call came... Orfinn offered to play at Right Fullback so the GCP could pull of the ultimate coop!

Chip: That's right! The great wimfrits of the Norwegian Blues (who's team apparantly was too busy on holiday) has signed on to play for the GCP for this year's Round Table Championships.

Spud: That's so coop... it's coop coop!

Chip: That's not even funny! Just show the lineup!

Here are your CheesPotatoes!

Wow, that last minute goa against (former) championsl was sweet! :-D Since we now have 6 points and will surely make to the next round, have to think whether to go to next match in full team, or let the youngsters get experience. Will let you know after some analysis...

What is the penalty to score when coach leaves some key players out? Will there be a bonus to next match (as the men are less tired)? What are the pairings in playoffs?

No wonder we got scored on right and right.

Now playing Fullback for the CheesePotatoes is that feisty firecracker Milla!

Image

Some of you know her Slayer. Opposing forwards have been known to run directly into the goalpost from wandering eyes. She always does very well with both the "wink" and "puppy dog eyes" defenses. If that doesn't work a good knee to the groin usually stops them. And she can talk a referee out of a red card faster than a cop out of a speeding ticket![/img]
