From the Nival answers on their forums: http://forums.nival.com/rus/showthread.php?t=33573

Q: And finally, the main question: "What is the tank doing in the game?!"
A: Everything's all right - it's Elven! :p

Nope. You would pretty much dislike every new feature of HoMM V because you want to feel superior and old school.

There is nothing wrong with the tank. A nice little easter egg.

It does lack half a Naga.

I said this before on the official forum.

I'm so glad they found the time to do this with the tank, but they say they didn't have enough time to implement actual game features.

In all fairness I think it takes a lot less work to put down a tankshaped object than to fix this games broken and missing features ;)

Hmmm, add a tank or add something that the modders were able to do in a day. Decisions, decisions. ;|

What's so "easter egg" about a stupid, worthless tank in the middle of nowhere … while the user-interface is so botched & the AI is so crappy? Nival would have done better spending its development time on things which made the game better than on ridiculous "jokes" nobody even gets.

While i agree it is not funny, i don't see what the fuss is with the "better spend your time elsewhere" argument. Obviously, it took 30 seconds to put that tank. It's the same kind of reasonning with their launching party with all the strippers. Honestly, who cares ? The game should have been better, but that is completely irrelevant to these two things.

Ok... I think there should be some sort of a psychological experiment conducted in order to understand the behaviour of hardcore players of some series.

at least people get blizzard's jokes. plus their games are playable with a fraction of the problems V has...

though im still at the "OMG WHY doesnt this game work with my intergrated graphics card :(" part. i hate game developers that require high end graphics cards to play at minimum settings. i always liked heroes of might and magic for the strategy.. not the flashy graphics >_<

I think the tank is a reference to Silent Storm. Remember that H5 uses the Silent Storm engine.
