The 300 spartans WoG map

Unread postby Salamandre » 29 May 2009, 21:53

I will need a whole book to describe this, so I will make it short for now:

Map Name ["300"] (after the "300" movie by Frank Miller.)

Map Makers: [Salamandre]

Map Type: [Single player][Large][1 Human Only, 7 Computer Only]

Language: [English ]

Description: "Spartan King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fight to the last man against Persian 'God-King' Xerxes and his army of more than one million soldiers. As the battle rages, Queen Gorgo attempts to rally support in Sparta for her husband."

Special Win: [Stay alive;)]
Special Loss: [Lose Athens]
Special Other: [NONE]

SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:

-Jim Vogan for his valuable advices as for his patience to guide me through ERM.
-Jim Vogan again for creating 9 puzzles which place far behind all that was done till now through ERM.
-Darkloke for his fantastic creatures.
-Bisik from russian forums for 3 creatures graphics
-Berserker and Qwertyus from WoG russian forums for advices and tools
-Vlaad for his original idea for Berenike quest.
-Cepheus for making the icons of the new creatures. Great work!
-Koni for giving a nice German flavor to the quest involving himself.
-All people from HC who encouraged me through the hard work.
-WoG team for the amazing tool they gave us.
-my students for ignoring my weariness for all the time this scenario took me.

What it proposes:

Internal customized difficulty settings, choose the easiest one when playing it for the first time or you may not be able to finish it alive.
120+ customized battles.
50+ unique quests + 15 "death order" specific quests.
140 unique special characters to interact with (NPC)
9 special puzzles done by J. Vogan
A lot of fresh graphics
More than 150 fully working objects to be visited and interact.
Option to be on "good" or "bad" side (Orders of Death/Life), changing the whole adventure experience with different issues and plots.
And many more...

What a tremendous work with a gigantic result! Congratulations!!

One question for installing (maybe others have the same question): what to do with the Thumbs.db included in the package? It isn't specified in the readme.

I guess nothing. They probably weren't intended to be shipped with the map files in the first place. thumbs.db are usually generated by viewing thumbnails under windows explorer.

Thanks.

I am quite done with all the fixes and bugs. It uses quite 5 times more battle triggers&flags than any other WoG map and it was hard to make WoG react properly to such many variables. Making it to work will also give us a hint about how many things can be done in a map without exploding your computer.

The film is by Zack Snyder, not Frank Miller. Frank Miller did the comics. :)

I have sooooo many things I want to point out about that movie, but I'll refrain...

The movie is directed by Zack Snider and produced by Frank Miller.

Anyway, what is your opinion about this WoG mod, as I am not concerned about your opinion about the movie.

Actually, he's one of the many executive producers. Which basicly means he didn't do squat except put his name in the credits. Sort off as a "sponsor".

And my opinion of this mod is that it looks well done indeed, but I am afraid I won't be able to test it because of my opinion of the movie. ;)

Well, so far this is a WoG forum and not a movie forum. Many mapmakers take inspiration from different real life facts, artworks, history, and without condemning or make any fanatic propaganda. I say nowhere that the movie is great or bad. I only use his action for making a mod.

In Civilization forums many scenarios were created and inspired by the world war, only because they offered the needed mechanics to get an interesting game. If one dislike Hitler and refuse to play a video game because Hitler is in, then it is up to him. But:

Is that the real purpose?

It's not really the same thing, but I see no point debating this. You made a great mod, I'm sure of it!
