jeff wrote:George Cole; the British actor most famous for his role in the British TV show Minder, but I will also remember him for his role in the 1951 version of the Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim, where he played the Young Ebenezer Scrooge along with Patrick Macnee, who played the young Jacob Marley; with both dying this year; the movie will be a bit more solemn when I watch it in the future. :rip:
Love that scene where they met for the first time. One of my favorite movies, it's been a must for many years.
Btw, the version of Scrooge I have has Macnee introducing the film.

RIP Mr. Cole

Wes Craven has passed as well.

And James Horner, the composer to many of James Cameron's films.

Noooo! 8|

One of my favourite actors, Alan Rickman, just died at the age of 69.

While his latest exploits will probably make him known as the man who made "Professor Severus Snape" in the Harry Potter universe come to life, I first came across him as the quintessentially British-accented bad guy in Die Hard. Shortly thereafter, I noticed him (once again as a bad guy) in Quigley Down Under, which Rickman lifted from triviality to mediocracy, and then there was of course his portrayal of the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of thieves. But then there's just so much more! Michael Collins, the cult film Galaxy Quest, Love Actually, the under-rated Snow Cake, the musical Sweeney Todd, Bottle Shock (which I recommend you see if you're a wine lover), Eye in the sky ... Not to mention all the stuff he did in the theatre ...!

I'll miss his dry wit, his exceptional acting; his ability to make characters that are really dejected become both funny and scary. Whatever you wanted a character to be, this guy could make it happen.

Yeah, also one of my favorite villain-playing actors. Remember having some laugh with Robin Hood years back.

Seems no one else mentioned Lemmy and David Bowie's recent passings aways, so I'll add those..
But yeah, sad with Rickman, he sure was a good and diverse actor.

March - The Month of Internet

Lloyd Shapley died. He was author of mathematical formula for stable pairing.
The solution is as follows: imagine a hall full of heterosexual singletons, with equal numbers of men and women. They have done enough idle chitchat to know who prefers whom—everyone has their own ranking of people in the other group. In round one, a starting gun is fired, and each man approaches his favourite women. The women reject everyone apart from their favourite, and then the process is repeated in a second round. No man should look too smug having not been rejected; if a woman is made a better offer, she should ditch an earlier one. The rounds continue until everyone is matched. The outcome is ‘stable’; no two people would prefer to partner with each other than their current match, otherwise the algorithm would already have paired them.
Simple, huh? * Gaming Theory *

Muhammad Ali dies at 74: one of the greatest athletes of all time and an important figure in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, the least we can do is mention his passing here by our table. Raise your glasses for a toast - drinks are on me; cheers.

Zygmunt Bauman died - he was certainly an interesting sociologist, one which can be equal to Freud, in modern times.
