Picky beasts aren't they?

Unread postby apathy59 » 02 Jun 2006, 01:25

I'm on the Inferno campaign, on the mission called The Ship.

I ran into a group of spectral dragons underground who want me to bring them 100 hunters or master hunters, but every time I bring them, I apparently fail with the message "Picky beasts aren't they? Now I have to start all over again", and then a few of the hunters die.

What's the trick here? I've brought 100 hunters, 100 master hunters, a combination of both.. nothing seems to work.

That's what Agreal says when you don't bring enough. I took 150 or so and it triggered just fine for me.

If you really can't get it to work you can just fight them, even on heroic. Although you get less exp.

Did you bring EXACTLY 100 hunters? Odds are, if that was what you set-out to do, you forgot that they tend to desert Agrael on the way back to the Dragons... I forgot about that little thing, gave Agreal exactly 100 hunters and when I got there, I realized a couple had deserted (so I only had 98) and they refused... next time, I came back with WELL OVER 100 so that wouldn't happen again!

Yeah, I was bringing exactly 100. I'll bring a few extras next time. Thanks for the help.

Just use your secondary hero to bring the hunters to the dragon, that way they won't desert your army.

The way I figure it a hero cannot give up his last creature. So if you have exactly 100 hunters you only have 99 to give away...

Yeah, but I'm sure he brought more then JUST 100 hunters... like 100 hunters and some green dragons or imps or something.

I'm positive it was just the desertion thing... same thing happened to me.

You get a lot more exp for doing the quest... somewhere in the region of a 55,000 exp difference in heroic :P

oh well ... i think i'm doing a'ight in that regard .... just killing everything in sight - the garrison with 30 ancient treants and 15 odd emerald (green?) dragons provided a good boost too

The thing is that the map is scripted to take away a few of your Hunters/Master Hunters every day. So if it takes you three days to travel to the Dragon with your Hunters, and you only started out with 100, you won't have enough by the time you reach your destination. Just be sure to take "extra" Hunters so you'll have at least 100 by the time you reach the Dragon.

i noticed only agrael loses sylvan units but if you buy another hero they dont. weird thing about the scripts and cutscenes is that i first approached the dragons with my secondary hero, but in the cutscenes, they show agrael i think.

That happens all the time... I take a castle with a secondary hero and the cutscene shows my primary hero taking the castle... and he's miles away on the map!

That's a repeating thing in all the campaigns!

yep - prolly too "difficult" to do those wonderful cgi cutscenes with every hero to cover all contingencies

;) :D

The best way to solve this quest is to bring the hunters with another hero, then transfer them to agrael just a few steps away from the dragons and give them in the same turn. Also,I think I brought 110,or 120 hunters and all disappeared. Is this a bug,or do dragons take away all of them?

i wouldn't want to bet against it being a bug .... shame to lose those last few hunters .... oh well, i ended up disbanding mine after most "defected"

Hmm...to put i simply

1) Agrael must bring the 100+ Hunters to the Dragon
2) Aragel must > 100 Hubnters as they will desert him
3) Slyvan troops won't desert a secondary hero

My suggestions

1) Have a secondary hero goes with Agrael, and before talking to the dragons, transfer the 100+ hunters to Agrael, and have Agrael speak with the dragons.

2) Put the 100+ Hunters at Algan (the northern most town nearest to the dragons, above ground). Use Summon Creature spell to transfer the hunters to the Agrael, then speak with the dragons.
